Pipestone Fly-In Outposts 18.11.2020

I left early this morning to go to the grouper grounds........and it paid great dividends! We had been out Wednesday, and had a tough day.......they bit early and then shutdown around 10 am. So today I decided to leave in the dark, and come back before noon. I could see on the radar that a front was supposed to hit in the afternoon,so leaving early made sense. Within 10 minutes I had my limit of two hog grouper. I also lost a couple that broke 65 pound leaders! I decided to go snapper fishing for a couple hours, and I landed and released 5 more big ones, along with a cooler full of Lane Snappers and Vermillion. What a fantastic Valentines Day!

I had a chance to fly back to Florida between Sportshows and do some of my favorite fishing, only second to Walleye fishing in Canada.......Grouper fishing. They lay on a Swiss cheese style bottom, and charge out of their holes and attack food that goes by. We found the big boys and at one point they had broken four of our lines rigged with 50 pound floro carbon leaders. We were done with our limits by 11 the first day,and 10 the second. I have been a charter captain, during the winter months for many years, and enjoy watching people grunt as they try to pull these big boys from the bottom. I have always said you can’t catch big grouper sitting on your pooper,

I am just getting ready to fly back for my first Sportshow in the St. Louis area.......but the seas calmed enough for us to go out in the snapper and grouper grounds in southwest Florida. We did fantastic, but had to go out 50 miles.

Many of you have let me know that you haven’t heard from me for awhile.......I am still alive, but seem to get lost in my favorite time of the year....the fall. I love to go bird hunting, and get back in shape from a summer of sitting in the cockpit of an airplane and eating things that I shouldn’t! I especially enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. They are God’s paintings in the sky!I also enjoy watching the harvest, and appreciate the bounty that our farmers provide our great count...ries with. As many of you know I start in Saskatchewan hunting Hungarian Partridge, and then move onto the beautiful state of Montana for the opening of pheasant, from there I move onto the pheasant capital of South Dakota, with a few side trips to Iowa.. it’s not just about hunting......it’s the people you meet and befriend along the way......it’s working behind a magnificent bird dog like my fox red lab named Gus. What a fantastic year it was......lots of trophy’s released, lots of fish frys, lots of great customers that became lifetime friends. We just put the last airplane to bed. Wow what a whirlwind of a year. For the most part we had great weather all summer long. Then fall hit.......fog,low ceilings, and tons of rain. Well that’s what it is like living in the Far North.......and I love it. I had a chance to go grouse hunting between rain storms, and they were out on the trails like chickens......days that I’ll remember the rest of my life.
