PISE is pleased to welcome Natalie Wright from OneYoga Victoria as a guest instructor for the Youth Performance Camp! She will be working with participants on mindfulness, balance and recovery. As a teacher. she infuses each of her sessions with "breath, joy, a sense of presence and hopefully the ability to surprise yourself". Kiersten is one of our Strength & Conditioning Coaches and she is VERY popular with her clients. Some of her clients have been attending her sessions for years - and there is no question as to why! Not only is she extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to educating people, but she is also just an incredibly nice person. If you are lucky enough to grab an opening in one of her classes or to have a session with her, don't hesitate!

Don’t worry! We aren’t asking you to workout with a mask on. With increased cases in BC, including on the island, MASKS are now required in common areas - entrances, hallways and bathrooms. We still expect physical distancing to be a focus. Please ensure you have a mask on when entering PISE. They are not required where physical distancing is established - fitness areas, offices. (We have excellent cleaning and distancing protocols in place.) Thank you.

We are honoured to work with Buddy Check for Jesse to help youth in sport with their mental health. Buddy Check for Jesse is a resource available to all sports and helps coaches and their athletes to be there for one another. We hope you will take the time to learn more about this important mental health initiative for sport. "The idea of doing a ‘Buddy Check’ is simply a reminder to keep an eye on each other and ourselves. It is not about suicide (which isn’t always related... to a mental health problem). It’s a message that I hope will spread throughout the sport community and beyond. If we look out for each other and do a ‘Buddy Check’ with our friends, teammates, family members and even with ourselves, I believe we can make a difference in each other’s lives. Our youth are the ones who can change the future. We need to give them the right message and tools to do this." ~ Dr. Stu Gershman, Dad of Jesse viaSport British Columbia https://buddycheckforjesse.com/

Meet Kiersten! She is one of our fantastic Senior S&C Coaches. Kiersten is also the Adaptive S&C coach, and she sometimes will lead a physical literacy program. One of our coaches with many hats. We asked Kiersten some questions to help get to know her better: Where did you complete your schooling?... Camosun College, I did the Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy program. With my degree I completed my certification of Athletic Therapy (CATC) and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). About a year ago I completed a 1 year certification program to become a Behavioural Interventionist. What do you coach at PISE? I coach multiple different programs such as WOW and ASC. I coach Personal Training clients, and occasionally lead a Physical Literacy program. I am currently working on a ACL and Injury prevention program for youth female athletes with Coach Melissa. What are your hobbies outside of PISE? Outside of PISE I like to be active or artsy. My active hobbies are hiking, road biking, and playing soccer. My artsy hobbies are knitting, crocheting, and painting. What are some interesting facts about yourself? I am currently rehabbing my second ACL reconstruction which I had operated on in June. My first reconstruction occurred 12 years ago. Each time a different knee, but both while playing soccer. @ Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence

Meet Melissa!! She is one of our fabulous S&C Coaches! We asked Mel to tell us about herself to help the PISE community get to know her better: I am a S&C coach here at PISE, coaching both classes and clients. I completed my Bachelor of Human Kinetics out of UBC Okanagan, and am currently heading into my 3rd year of the Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy at Camosun College.... Outside of PISE I am volleyball and spike ball playing beach gal. I played volleyball at Briercrest College in the Alberta College League for 2 years. Something interesting about me is in the past 2 years I have undergone 2 knee surgeries on my left knee. First I had my ACL reconstructed and then I had an Anterior Lateral Ligament replacement to help with knee instability. From my knee history, I have turned into the biggest knee nerd! Need to talk about anything knees I am your girl!! Stay turned for a new ACL and Injury Prevention program that will be coaching with Coach Kiersten this September for youth female athletes. #strengthandconditioning #coach #acl #kneenerd #pise @ Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence
