Whats New in Auto Insurance.Your Accident Benefits Coverage is changing. All vehicle owners in Ontario are required to have accident benefits coverage. This important coverage protects you if youve been injured in an accident, regardless of who caused it. Whats new? Standard benefits for Medical, Rehabilitation and Attendant Care have been combined to total $65,000 for non-catastrophic injuries, and $1,000,000 for catastrophic injuries. You have the option to increase thes...e limits and can speak with your PC insurance Broker to make these updates. Minor At-Fault Accidents will no longer impact your premium. For accidents that occur on or after June 1st, 2016, minor at-fault accidents1 will not be considered when underwriting or rating risks. The deductible for Comprehensive Coverage is increasing. Comprehensive coverage is an optional coverage that covers losses from fire, theft or vandalism. If you have chosen to have this coverage on your policy and the deductible limit is less than $500, the deductible will automatically be increased to $500. Service fees for monthly payments are being cut by over half. If you pay your premium monthly, your service fee for doing so will be reduced from 3% to 1.3%. When will the changes take effect? As of June 1st, 2016, the coverage on all new auto policies will reflect the above changes. For existing policies, the changes will take effect on your renewal date from June 1st onward. See more
