Pivot Canada 29.12.2020

It’s certain: the #COVID19 pandemic has made made an already difficult job ecosystem even more challenging, especially for Canada’s youth population. One of our partners, the Canadian Council for Youth Prosperity (CCYP), which is a national, non-profit, cross-sector collaboration of community and corporate leaders, does amazing work to help young people address this challenge. During the #Pivot2020 program, the Virtual Success Team from CCYP provided our employed young people... with a vital support network: virtual success coaching, workshops, and 1:1 sessions. While the Pivot program ends on December 7th, CCYP isn’t going anywhere. In fact, they have set up a Pivot Alumni Support Framework which allows the young people who participated in Pivot to continue meeting with them 1:1 and participating in their online sessions until March 31, 2021. CCYP’s aim is to not only aid the Pivot alumni network in gaining valuable employment, but focus on supporting youth through numerous contemporary challenges. Keep reading to hear insights about work with the Pivot young people from Pivot's CCYP Program Director Braden. A major theme we have been hearing from youth during the program is that CCYP helps bridge the gap between hard and soft skills through their content provided in workshops as well as 1:1's. This has been done through the service CCYP offers in assisting in developing their application and critical thinking skills for reframing, personal, and job growth development and success. I have heard that from Pivot members that both our success team, as well as CCYP as a whole within Pivot, take into consideration each person’s abilities, and want them to grow/succeed. The young people have also told me that they developed increased learning and growth for both work (hard and soft skill development) and life as they have received skills and experience that are valuable to their success. -Braden, CCYP #workforce #remotework #wfh #skills #CCYP #development #work #jobs

It's #GivingTuesday. While we featured a bunch of organizations suggested by our #pivot2020 team members to share on our Instagram and Twitter feeds (go check it out!) we wanted to use our Facebook post to amplify a few more amazing organizations. Here is a great list of organizations and movements you can give to today, compiled by the youth organization 4 Rs Youth Movement (https://4rsyouth.ca), a youth-driven initiative that was launched to change the country by changing ...relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people. Links to the organizations that 4 Rs Youth Movement shared: Indigenous Climate Action A7G - Assembly of Seven Generations Justice For Abdirahman 1492 Land Back Lane The Native Youth Sexual Health Network:(nativeyouthsexualhealth.com) Future Ancestors Services Reclaiming Our Roots: Land Based Learning and Community Stewardship Finding Our Power Together NDNCollective We thank the 4 Rs Youth Movement for compiling this list, and we hope you can donate + share this #GivingTuesday.

Our #pivot2020 Youthful Cities survey is now live. While we understand the limitations of survey analysis, and no survey (including our own) is perfect, we still want to hear and amplify young people's voices through a variety of research and methodological tools. If you are between the ages of 15-29 and want to share your ideas, concerns, and experiences about the city you are living in, we’d love to hear from you. To learn more about the survey and contribute, visit pivot20...20.ca/survey. The survey is available in French and English. CW: Please note, this survey contains questions on topics such as policing, public health, ableism, racism, transphobia, and homophobia. These are sensitive areas to discuss and explore, and also matters where this survey data can help to better understand how young people feel about these topics and inform real change. Please note that you are able to leave the survey at any time, but all data inputted up to that point, will remain - we invite you to take care as you move through it. #research #contribute #StayTuned #youthvoices #survey #methodology #COVID19 #youngpeople #canada #youth #cities
