2020 was a strange year, but there's some good news as we put it in our rear view mirror. TLDR: If you worked from home more then 50% of the time for at least four weeks in 2020, you are eligible for $2 per day, up to $400 as an additional tax deduction. A lot of us had to adapt on the fly when businesses began shutting down back in March and April. I dont know about you guys, but it seems like years ago and just the other day all at once. Like me, I'm sure your hourly wage ...covered your time, but what about all the other expenses from working at home? Enter the home office tax deduction! This is for your home office expenses, such as internet, cell phone usage, pens, paper etc, if they were not reimbursed by your employer. It does not require any additional forms like previous years, and is attainable even if you chose to work from home during the pandemic. While it's not a huge amount, especially if it was only for those crazy 6 weeks in March and April, every little bit helps. I really think this was a great idea by the government to simplify this deduction for 2020 as so many people will be able to easily claim it. Tax season is around the corner, my friends, go in prepared!
