And heres the chair I gave to my moms boyfriend for Christmas! He has discovered a love of sailing so a nautical theme seemed most apporpriate. All the front facing pieces of wood are stained, while the majority of the pieces are then painted a rich blue and the back of the chair fades from light to dark blue to resemble water. All of the design is then carved. The arms have ship wheels and inside the wheel are the recipients initials. The front piece of wood at the bottom of the chair has Manitoulin, along with the coordinates of their home. The main carved portion on the chair is an anchor with a compass in the middle. Above that is a quote from William Ernest Henleys Invictus, "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."

I can FINALLY post photos of two of the chairs I did for Christmas presents this year. I did two drastically different chairs for my mom and her boyfriend and surprised them on Christmas morning. These are photos of my moms chair. I made the chair look like old grey and red barn wood by making it look worn. She has chickens, ducks and previously had two roosters, one of which was quite cross. I want to give a big shout out to the support of all my clients this past year. Perhaps my most personalized piece to date. A couple was celebrating their 60th - thats right, SIXTIETH - wedding anniversary and couples chairs were in order. Their diamond anniversary was recognized on the outer arm of each chair, complete with the date of their wedding and the date of their 60th anniversary. Then, each couple was asked to write something to the other, ubeknownst that their words would then be blown up and made bigger to carve on the remaining arms. The husbands message was carved into the arm of the wifes chair and vise versa. At a celebratory anniversary bash last weekend, attendees were asked to sign the remaining space on the arms. Last weekend the carved Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey chair in memory of a former OPP officer was raffled off at an annual memorial hockey tournament in his name. Perhaps fittingly, the lucky winner of the chair was Ontario Provincial Police Association president, Rob Jamieson, who knew Ken "Tex" Deane well. The chair is currently taking up residence in his office at work! Proceeds from the chair, along with other funds raised at the tournament, go towards helping a childs wish come true with the Make a Wish Foundation. However, this year part of the proceeds went towards the Humboldt Broncos. #HumboldtStrong

The moment I know many of you have been waiting for ... final photos of the #Toronto Maple Leafs chair. Based on the original design of the Bobby Orr chair, the Toronto Maple Leafs chair is for the ultimate Leafs fan the dreamer. The year that the team was established is featured in the banner, along with the current year. The photo collage features team captain Dave Keon (top) and goalie Johnny Bower (bottom) of the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs, the last team to win a Stanley... Cup for the Leafs. Eyeing the Stanley Cup is current leafs player Auston Matthews. The great white knight that many a Leaf fan hope will help bring the Leafs their next Stanley Cup. The back of the chair also features Matthews name and number. The chair is complete with the PJ Phillips Design logo carved into the right leg of the chair. This chair is being used as a prize at a stag and doe for a client.
