Things you should address to speed recovery between training sessions: Fluid flow, aerobic activity, relaxation, movement variety. . So do you foam roll, go for... a walk, meditate, and then play a new sport? Nah, who the fuck has time for that. You can address all those big rocks of recovery in one shot by shaking your body out ! . On my website you can find a detailed article on why shaking works, and more importantly HOW to do it. I posted the link in my IG bio. Bookmark the blog for some educational bathroom reading later today, and let me know what you think . P.S. doing effective but weird, esoteric shit is just as good for your mind as it is for your body See more

WHY I LIKE THE SINGLE ARM LANDMINE PRESS . 1) I was married to deadlifts and posterior chain training for YEARS (they’re still very valuable though). O...ver-glorifying the positive pull:push ratio, and haphazardly compressing the fuck out of my torso and the back of my ribcage really retarded my potential for pain-free, athletic movement (e.g. not being able to expand my posterior ribcage to give my lats a better fulcrum to lengthen out and snap back while kickboxing). Pressing to end-range without my scaps being pinned down behind me helps me undo all the stiffness from 15 years of old school/conventional strength training. . 2) The slight forward lean from my ankles allows me to pronate better, and squish myself down into the ground more effectively. Again, for me it’s all about learning how to be less stiff and getting better at yielding. . 3) I like pressing heavy shit over my head. Hurr See more

My Imaginary Internet Book Club: THE ALIGN METHOD by Aaron Alexander (@alignpodcast) . Most of us are living in a chronic state of dis-ease. And we can cer...tainly try to bio hack and corrective exercise our way out of some of it... but ultimately it’s a dead end path... . And that’s because the REAL PROBLEM is our environment. Society. Our unquestioned chair-screen-convenience-comfort culture. . In The Align Method, Aaron Alexander eloquently adds his two cents to the Let’s Learn How to Be Humans Again conversation. My favourite thing about his writing is that he focused on concepts rather than specific habits and techniques (although there’s plenty of that too if you want to turn your brain off and play follow the leader). . A solid 9/10, especially for how approachable and simple it is - buddy clearly made effort to leave the jargon behind to better educate the people. . It’s like Deskbound, Move Your DNA, and The Body Keeps the Score had a threesome and birthed The Align Method. Really good reading. Go buy it See more

CENTRAL SENSITIZATION . When structurally you’ve fully healed from an injury, but you still move awkwardly or feel excessively stiff because your brain still ...thinks you’re injured. I call it injury PTSD. Dr. Jeff Almon (@mvmt_lab) who I learned this stuff from, calls it the emergency brake on movement. . Example: You break your right foot, and months after the bones have healed you start developing ankle, knee, hip, and back issues because your brain is preventing you from loading into your right foot. The acute trauma caused compensatory changes to the way you move, and you’re stuck moving that way long after the initial injury is gone. . If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t really understand it. See more

WHY I LIKE THE PEC FLY . 1) Honestly, no reason in particular other than the fact that it’s the only vanity lift that I really really enjoy. The ‘cep...s are isometrically contracted so my elbow doesn’t snap, which means that I’m definitely taking the opportunity to stare at my arms in the mirror while doing this. The cables allow for a better end range squeeze compared to a dumbbell pec fly. . 2) Straight arm strength, scap mobility, expansion in the back, end range abduction, blah blah blah - sometimes it’s just good ol’ fashioned fun to feel a pump in the tiddies . Message me if you want to learn how to train in a way that allows you to do your fav activities BETTER and with less PAIN. Lookin’ to take on 1 new client in May See more

My Imaginary Internet Book Club: THE OVERSTORY by Richard Powers . This is in all likelihood the most thought provoking novel I’ve ever read. It’s also the... best writing I’ve ever come across. Richard Powers is so fucking talented; literature Lebron for sure. . The Overstory is a wildly complex tale that touches on themes and issues that are near and dear to my heart: The rise of technology, the destruction of forests, and our (the human species) impending doom. . This novel is like Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael had unprotected sex with Peter Wohlleben’s The Hidden Life of Trees and Joseph Pulitzer himself (because of how good the writing is). . Incredibly entertaining. Extremely important read. 9/10 See more
