The list of 19 staffers who have been assigned responsibilities in the campaign to elevate Morneau to the top job at the OECD includes public servants working in communications and media relations, policy advisers and analysts, diplomatic outreach and protocol officers, an assistant deputy minister responsible for strategic policy and a number of GAC staff who regularly liaise with the OECD, among others.
"At least 49,216 applications await decisions, according to the Parliamentary Budget Office. Analysts in a September 28 report Disability Benefit Processing At Veterans Affairs Canada said the backlog had more than doubled from 20,693 applications in three years." Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence Macaulay's response to this disgraceful situation was that people need to make sure they fully fill out the paperwork. https://www.blacklocks.ca/no-end-to-fed-dysfunction/
Don't forget to stop by Giant Tiger on Lansdowne tomorrow to help MPP Dave Smith Spread the Warmth! Your donation of hats, mitts, socks, and underwear will go directly to someone in need at Brock Mission, Cameron House, and the YES Shelter for Youth and Families. Dave will be collecting donations from noon to 6 tomorrow.
"We should be openly questioning the competence of the Trudeau government, because they’re asking Canadians to keep sacrificing and trusting them while they are making gross failures on this and so many other fronts. This includes the failure to deliver high volumes of rapid or at-home COVID tests to Canadians."
While not the Leamington major employer it once was, Heinz is back in Canada. From David Gable for @globeandmail
Take the time to get to know Erin O'Toole this morning! This is a great interview with MacLean's Paul Wells.
Fair enough, you may say. If the peaceniks want to spend their time campaigning on behalf of a Chinese billionaire who flits between multi-million dollar mansions in Vancouver, that’s their affair. Yet there is no mention anywhere in the publicity material of Michael Kovrig or Michael Spavor, the two Canadians who were detained by Chinese authorities nine days after Meng was arrested in Vancouver. That’s shocking.... Ashton has not only agreed to participate in the event, she has sponsored a petition in the House of Commons that calls for Meng’s immediate release; urges the government to protect Canadian jobs by allowing Huawei to participate in the roll-out of 5G in Canada, and encourages a foreign policy review to develop an independent foreign policy on China.
From Malcolm Mayes for the @edmontonjournal The very idea of a Liberal Plan B is charitable. #cdnpoli #deficitpit
Pierre Poilievre: If they were not using income tax filing as proof of eligibility, what exact evidence were they using to prove people were eligible? https://www.blacklocks.ca/vowed-to-first-verify-claims/
Conservative foreign affairs critic Michael Chong said the Commons vote is a sign that Canadians want action. Canadians expect the Liberal government to uphold our democratic norms and respect the will of Parliament by taking action to defend Canada’s national security and make a decision on Huawei and Canada’s 5G network, he said, and by developing a plan to protect Canadians against Communist China’s growing influence operations here at home.

This is utterly outrageous. China has already taken two of our citizens hostage. Now it is threatening hundreds of thousands more. (Democracy and Human Rights for China)... Friends of Hong Kong Calgary Democracy Watch See more
Terry Glavin: "This is the crowd that has been writing Canada's China "policy" for decades. They're the reason Beijing reckoned it could get away with making hostages of the two Mikes. This is why Beijing sees the Liberal Party as the political wing of the Canada-China Business Council." Olivier Desmarais, "scion of one of Canada’s most influential corporate families who is senior vice-president of Power Corp. and chairs the business council", who is cited in the article is Jean Chretien's grandson.

Committees are supposed to hold governments accountable, Pierre Poilievre said. It’s not appropriate for the chair to simply slam the gavel, flip the switch, and turn out the lights when the government is embarrassed.
Ah yes, "it's Harper - who lost power in 2015 - who is to blame for me shuttering the pandemic surveillance unit in 2019." Surprised he hasn't tried to blame Harper for forcing him into the #WEscandal.
In the last month, China has jailed dissidents in Hong Kong; it has drafted half a million Tibetans into forced labour; and it has committed acts of ethnic clea...nsing against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang. Russia has increased its interference in foreign elections, cracked down even further on free speech, and the Russian government has attempted to murder the leader of its primary opposition. Today, these countries will take a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council. By allowing these nations to take a lead role in the effort to police human rights abuses around the world, the UN has effectively given their actions a United Nations seal of approval. Canada must work with its democratic allies to stand up for freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. And, seek to reform the United Nations so that it lives up to its founding principles.
Canadian energy workers are being left behind by Justin Trudeau’s anti-energy government. It’s time for a government that stands up for Canadian energy.
"By ignoring the need to get the government’s fiscal house in order, the prime minister is driving the Canadian economy towards a wall of debt at 130 kilometres per hour. At some point, he has to slow down and change course. Better to do it now than wait until the brakes fail." A thoughtful read.
From Michael de Adder for The Hill Times
From Brian Gable for @globeandmail Liberals silenced the Global Public Health International Network’s highly regarded international alert system for outbreaks early last year, and curtailed much of its pandemic surveillance activity less than a year before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Not The Time for A Plastic Ban! Earlier this week, the Trudeau Liberals announced that single-use plastic will be banned in 2021. In the middle of a pandemic, the health and safety of Canadians should be the number one priority for the government.... Plastics are what is keeping family-owned restaurants in Peterborough-Kawartha open and residents in our long-term care homes safe. Conservatives will put forward an environment plan that works for Canadians, while keeping them safe during this pandemic. Click on the link below below if you think health and safety should be the number one priority: https://peterboroughkawartha.nationbuilder.com/plastics_ban
