I'll never forget my first glimpse of the Colosseum. Throughout University, I studied this structure. I took ancient history, art, architectural, and religion classes where we learned about the Colosseum and its importance in history. I dreamed about visiting Italy, specifically to see the Colosseum, for YEARS!!! ... When this picture was taken, I had just turned a corner and BAM, there it was. The building I had been dying to see for 10+ years. I was speechless, I couldn't believe that I was actually there, that I got to see it, to touch it, IN REAL LIFE! My last night in Italy, we sat at a small patio overlooking the Colosseum and the Roman Forum having a glass of wine, and a tear came to my eye. I was so sad to be leaving such a wonderful country and leaving the abundance of history and architecture that I so quickly fell in love with. It was at that moment that I vowed to return.
