Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) are a very popular birth control method because they are over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy and last for five or more years, depending on which one you get. Unlike condoms or the pill/patch/ring, there's no chance of using it incorrectly or forgetting to take it. Many insurance plans will cover most of the cost, otherwise they can be $100-400. You can get more information here: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control/iud If yo...u'd like to get an IUD, it may take 4-8 weeks because we require a phone consult with one of our nurses before we can book the insertion appointment and are booking a few weeks ahead. Many folks are getting IUD prescriptions from their family doctors who refer them to us for the insertion then are understandably upset when we can't get them quickly and require a phone consult. If you'd like to get an IUD, ask your family doctor if they do insertions and if not, make sure you have a 2-3 month supply of another method of birth control to last you until we can get you in.

Please take a minute to read this piece by Jaris Swidrovich and with the election coming up, consider where your candidates stand on education, mental health, community services, and reproductive justice.
