For the fourth iteration of the PLATFORM GALLERY VIEWING ROOM we present a painting series by Angelo Mingarelli.POLYPTYCH for A.G.I. This painting series represents a graphic, aesthetic, and intellectual form of communication with sentient AGI (future beings endowed with artificial general intelligence). These are for them. All are mixed media and crushed pigments, symbolic of discrete binary bits. Each work is labelled by the number of languages used, the number of colo...urs, and their position in the series. Each distinguishing feature relates to a unique alphabetic character encrypted by one of the indicated colours. The final text is composed of words in each of the different languages which, when grouped altogether appropriately, reveal a message for future AGI.Angelo Mingarelli is a professor of mathematics. For the third iteration of the PLATFORM GALLERY VIEWING ROOM we present the work of Ellen Bacal Segal: Ellen studied at the Ecole des Beaus Arts in Montreal and the Ottawa School of Art. She has a masters degree in special education from Boston University and also a diploma in landscape design from Algonquin College in Ottawa. After many years teaching hearing impaired children and designing gardens Ellen chose to concentrate on visual art. Her work uses collage with paintin...g to explore shape, space, colour and texture in that ambiguous area between abstraction and figuration. The PLATFORM GALLERY VIEWING ROOM continues with a show of paintings by Denise Bisson, Faces and Figures Denise begins her semi-abstract and expressive paintings by building up layers of marks, textures, and patterns using collage, pencil, ink and acrylic paint. This process of layering continues until the painting, as she says, speaks to me, i.e. when a line or shape suggests a face or figure. The PLATFORM GALLERY ONLINE VIEWING ROOM opens with a show of new paintings by Ted Willis, The Boscotrecase Suite The idea for this series of paintings came from Roman frescoes discovered at the imperial villa near Boscotrecase, Italy in 1906.The villa was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. which also destroyed Pompeii. Soon after their excavation they were bought by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art where they are now o...n display and where Ted first discovered them. Unfortunately in 1909 Vesuvius again erupted , burying for a second time the incomplete excavations. Included is an image of the frescoes installed in the Met. The colour palette, textures and spatial structure of these paintings were influenced by the original frescoes but are not meant to be representations of them. The first six paintings shown here, [top down], use acrylic markers and paint on 400 lb. water colour paper and are 22 in./56 cm. by 30 in./76 cm. each. The last three use the same media but are on paper or vellum and range between 10 in./25 cm. by 11 in./28 cm. to 11 in./28 cm. by 17 in./43 cm. Please see contact information listed on these signs if you feel like being heard regarding this redevelopment. This re-development will wipe out not only our gallery and our 10 artists, but it will wipe out the artists working out of Flo Glassblowing, Northern Art Glass Inc., Philip Craig Studios, The Stables, Alcorn Music Studios, Vimy Brewing Company and more artists. Within the City of Ottawa this is the only artist hub left. Many of you know that we just moved to this location also, and that was due to the city having to destroy our old location just down the street in Little Italy.
