How to maintain a resilient supply chain? The most successful companies have taken precautions that's allowed them to bounce back from economic and natural disaster crises. First, protect your employees affected, and reconsider work practices to ensure their safety and job security. Second, keep a pulse on situations in the markets you operate in. Stay in touch with local contacts to cross check news reports. In situations when core suppliers are on the front lines, be prepa...red for worst case scenarios. When factories shut down in China, buyers had no options but to wait. When their factories turned back on, China had taken on more orders than they could produce, so there were many cancellations. This reinforces the need to diversify the supply chain, and not put all eggs in one basket. Lastly, having an emergency operation center can provide action plans for communication, coordination and quick decision making. These are just a few things we can learn from these pandemic to be prepared. Is it time to revisit your supply chain’s design? We've witnessed the vulnerabilities of reliance on sources of manufacturing, that are located in one spot, far from the site of the consumer. It’s no longer wise to assume that materials flow without interruptions in a highly volatile global supply chain, as we face this global pandemic. Now, companies are reconsidering their supply chain design to combat the decline of Chinese manufacturing plants. Harvard Business Review rec...ommends redesigning your supply chain model to become more agile and responsive in these changing global trade policies. Having a backup capacity for supply, production and distribution outages in a different area is wise. With consideration if the administrative, quality monitoring and unit costs are feasible. Alternatively, consider production facilities in local sources, which can also be more cost efficient for transportation. Dispersing your sources exposes your supply chain to a wider range of economies and lowers overall risk. Here at Playbook Logistics, we have the operational flexibility and access to different sources all over the world, so that we can protect our seamless supply chain even in times of global crisis. #TheSmartPlay #GlobalSupplyChain #SupplyChain #COVID19 #Logistics

Is there really a shortage of essential household goods? Shoppers are preparing for a possible quarantine for months, hoarding all household essentials. But in the age of instant online shopping and same day delivery, the idea that mundane items could be unavailable scares people. Dr. Sylvian Charlebois who studies food distribution, security and safety, expects food prices to increase, but there shouldn’t be any shortages of essential items. In 2020, we are experiencing new global pressures, as the supply chain demand increases, so does the need to limit our impact on the environment. We've seen this in full effect as of January 1st, 2020, where the International Maritime Organization (IMO) imposed new emission regulations that bans ships using fuel with sulfur contents higher than 0.5 %. This will decrease sulfur dioxide emissions by 77% (approximately 8.5 million tons). Studies have linked sulfur dioxide to aci...d rain, climate change, premature death, respiratory and cardiovascular disease. This may put an upward pressure of ~ $2 per barrel on light, sweet crude oil prices, but likely will moderate in the years to come. Currently, the world’s top refiners are seeking out more lower sulfur concentrated crude oils to adjust to these regulations. Some reports state that the UAE has ratified the IMO 2020 regulations to not punish non compliant ships immediately, to give them the opportunity to make this shift. It’s great to see consensus towards making these changes, even if it means it may be more costly to do so initially. Here at Playbook, we play by the similar values, for we invest in the future for generations to come. #TheSmartPlay #CleanShipping #ReduceEmissions #IMO2020 #CleanSupplyChain
