SLPs certainly have the power of creativity. Who else could think of ingenious ways to use cups as play props in therapy activities? #speechhearbc #SLPeeps

Now this introduction is a wee bit late because...well....I'm not fabulous with social media. Meet Chella, one of our great SLPs. She has been at the clinic for a year now and has a lot of training and expertise in fluency disorders and stuttering. She has been an awesome addition to our team. Chella graduated with a Masters of Speech Language Pathology from Western Carolina University in 2010, following a Linguistics degree from the University of Alberta. She has worked... in the thunder storms of Alberta, the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, the rain and coffee of Seattle, and the parks of Vancouver. Her experience ranges from various settings and all ages, including schools, private practice and nursing homes. She specializes in fluency disorders, with training in Lindcombe Therapy for preschoolers who stutter, as well as training at ISTAR (Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research) in Edmonton working with adults. She is experienced in orofacial myology therapy, articulation therapy and language therapy. Chella moved to Squamish after working in Vancouver for 4 years and taking 8 months to travel through Central and South America. She is excited to pursue her passions of rock climbing, hiking and skiing, while continuing to advance her career working with families in Squamish. See more

We have another great staff at Play In Motion - meet Cassandra, another fabulous OT. She started with us on a part time basis and is slowly growing to full time capacity! Here's a delayed WELCOME to our clinic :) Cassandra Gunton Occupational Therapist... Cassandra recently earned her Masters of Occupational Therapy from the University of British Columbia. Cassandra was fortunate to be mentored by Tara-Leigh Cain during her final fieldwork placement and is thrilled to officially become part of the Play in Motion team! Before entering Occupational Therapy, Cassandra worked professionally with children in diverse capacities such as a wilderness guide, outdoor educator, program leader, and volunteer for adaptive sports. It is her goal to enable and empower children to engage in their everyday lives in a meaningful way. Cassandra works hard to ensure every session is filled with creativity, purpose, and fun. She values a holistic approach and the importance of collaborating with her clients and their families to support all areas of occupational performance. Originally from Ontario, Cassandra has called Squamish home for the past six years. When she isn’t at the clinic, you’ll find her playing in the outdoors biking, hiking, skiing or walking her dog. Cassandra is a provisional registrant with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COT-BC), a member of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and listed as a Supervised Occupational Therapist on the Registered Autism Service providers (RASP).

We have an excellent opportunity to develop a collaboration with Orthodynamics of Vancouver. They are offering to hold in-clinic assessments here in Squamish for children in need of new orthotic supports (AFO, DAFO, in-shoe) Assessment and castings would be held here with final fittings and adjustments to be held at their clinic in Vancouver. If you're interested in this please leave us a message and we will work to arrange a date(s).

We're only a little bit late introducing Allison, one of our amazing new speech therapists who started at the clinic in September! She has been an amazing team member to work with!! Here's a little bit about her: Allison is a registered speech and language pathologist with a Master’s of Science degree from the University of British Columbia (2017). She loves blending science and creativity into therapy sessions and has a particular interest in language delay, and literacy r...elated learning difficulties. Allison strongly believes that having fun in therapy is the best way to empower children to achieve their speech, language and literacy skills. Allison is a provider for the Community Brain Injury Program and is a Supervised Registered Autism Service Provider. She is a certified member of Speech and Audiology Canada. Before moving to the west coast, Allison lived in Alaska for seven years where she completed her undergraduate degree and fell in love with big mountain skiing. She moved to Squamish with her husband and son to continue exploring the mountains on bikes, skis, and hiking trails. Allison is also accepting adult clients and has experience providing therapy to people with aphasia, traumatic brain injury, swallowing impairment (dysphagia), and neurological disease. She joined the team at Play In Motion in 2018 and is looking forward to working with the Squamish community.

A great link that explains "W-sitting" and provides some ideas for correcting. Know of a child that spends too much time in this position? Contact us for an assessment.

It’s no wonder so many kids struggle with articulation (and explains why I can’t master the French /r/ ! )
