Pleasant Hill Farm 16.12.2020

Chicken soup or chicken pot pie may be an antidote to the endlessly grey, rainy weather we're experiencing. We'll have some of our certified organic soup chickens for sale at Lunenburg Farmers' Market this week, locally processed by Northfield Poultry. Also some really nice greenhouse head lettuce. See you there!

This is interesting: a massive (nearly 70,000 participants) study in France found a correlation between consumption of organic foods and significantly reduced cancer risk. There is strong pushback from the industrial ag community against the study, but its sheer size makes the argument pretty convincing to us. Read the whole study here and judge for yourself: https://jamanetwork.com//jamainte/article-abstract/2707948

We thought the folks who've been enjoying our cherry tomatoes at Lunenburg Farmers' Market might be interested in seeing what the production end of things looks like. This greenhouse contains 630 tomato plants, which are currently 9 feet tall and adding about a foot a week. When the season ends in October, the vines will be around 20 feet long. Pest and disease control provided by beneficial organisms and good environmental management - nothing toxic! Pollination provided by a hive of bumble bees.

Forget Peak Oil. This week it's all about Peak Garlic Scapes. The hot, sunny weather has brought on most of the scapes all at once, which means we're bringing A LOT of them to Lunenburg Farmers' Market today. We're also bringing lots of basil, and A LOT of cherry tomatoes (300+ pints... no per-customer limit!). So here's the deal. You supply the pasta and olive oil, and we'll supply the basil, tomatoes, and scapes so you can enjoy what just might be the best pasta dish you ever tasted!
