Dr. Lyn Sonnenberg is the Medical Lead, Infant Preschool Assessment Services, at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. She’s also leading the expansion of autis...m spectrum disorder diagnostic services in Alberta to include community pediatricians. Since autism is more prevalent than it was a decade ago, we need to recognize the strengths of our community pediatricians, she says. In a collaborative partnership, we are providing specialized training, with ongoing peer support, to capitalize on that strength for the assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care for children with autism. For Sonnenberg, it’s all about working with community partners and advocating for her patients and their families. What I love best about my job is that I’m surrounded by a team that is always looking to keep patients and their families at the centre of care. October is Autism Awareness Month. Contact your healthcare provider or call 811 if you or someone you know needs autism information.

Community notice: With bike theft and garage B&E on the rise in Greenfield, Duggan, Royal Gardens, Malmo, Pleasentview, Lendrum communities, be diligent on making sure your garage, shed, and vehicles are locked up tight. The thieves are out during the day and looking for someone doing yard work who has left their garage door open while working in the back yard or someone who has left their car unlocked on the street. ... If you are out walking keep an eye on the bushes and tree lines for evidence of camps and stolen property being stashed, this allows the thieves to keep stealing and they will come back later for the bigger stuff like bikes and tools. If any bikes are left abandoned or hidden on or near your property, be sure to report it to EPS non emergency 780-423-4567. Please tag Brent Thorvaldson on your post.
