BROTHER CLEANING CYCLES To maintain good print quality, the machine automatically cleans the print head when needed. But sometimes this isn't sufficient. If the...re is a print quality problem, start the cleaning process manually. Clean the print head if there is a horizontal line or a blank space in the text or graphics on printed pages. Depending on the problem color, select to clean Black only, three colors at a time (Yellow/Cyan/Magenta), or all four colors at once. If you aren't sure how to do the cleaning cycle there is always Mr Google, he is very helpful!! The cleaning process does use some ink. But I advice doing this regularly because if you don't there is a chance that you can ruin the printer. I equate it to doing oil changes on your car. If you ignore it for too long you are going to have big problems!! See more

The Difference Between Tri-Color & Single Color Ink Cartridges We’re going to be taking a look at the difference between tri-colour & individual ink cartridges. We’ll also take a look at how cost-effective the two types of cartridges are, and which one is the best for you. What is the difference?... Tri-colour cartridges are a single unit that contains all three ink colours (cyan, magenta and yellow) while individual ink cartridges contain only a single colour. Tri-colour ink cartridges also typically have an integrated printhead (like HP), while individual ink cartridges, Brother, Canon & Epson slot into the printhead inside the printer. Tri-colour ink cartridges usually have lower page yields than individual colour cartridges. Which type of cartridge is best? Most tri-colour cartridges can’t provide the same depth of tone & shade. Tri-colour cartridges are also not good if you’re going to printing in colour a lot. Because there is less ink in the cartridge, you’ll need to replace the cartridge more often. Tri-colour cartridges are useful if you mainly print in black and white and only need to print in colour occasionally. Are tri-colour ink cartridges more cost-effective? You may think that because you only have to replace one cartridge that tri-colour ink cartridges would be more cost-effective. This is not always the case. As soon as one colour has run out, you have to replace it. This means that you’re potentially throwing away a cartridge that still has two full-colour tanks. Most printer manufacturers make tri-colour cartridges for their cheaper printer models. It’s a general rule that the cheaper the printer, the more expensive it will be to replace the cartridges. Individual ink cartridges give you the option to only replace the colour you need, making them more cost-effective in the long run. The main function of the cleaning cycle is simply to keep the printer heads from clogging or drying out. Ink must pass through incredibly small passageways to make its way to the printing heads, and in order to keep a printer in good operating condition. Small clogs occur fairly often on most printers as the printing heads are exposed to air and left to dry and severe clogs can occur when a printer isn't used for an extended period of time. Clogged printing heads can have a serious effect on the quality of printed pages. A printer with a severe clog might stop printing entirely, but in most cases, clogs will simply cause certain colours to print incorrectly. A clogged printing head might lead some printer owners to believe that their cartridges are out of ink, and while replacing the ink cartridge might solve the problem on some printers, it's far less expensive to regularly maintain the printing heads via the printer's built-in cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle varies from printer to printer, but most devices use the same basic technology to prevent and remove clogs. During the cleaning cycle, printers shoot a small amount of ink through the tiny passageways that lead to the printing heads, breaking up dried ink along the way.
