Join us for our Facebook Premiere of a concert celebrating the National Independence Day of Poland . Nadia Monczak & Steven Massicotte will perfor...m works by Polish composers Fryderyk Chopin, Jan Ignacy Paderewski and Henryk Wieniawski, as well as compositions commemorating crucial events of the history of Poland. The virtual event will take place on Friday, November 20, at 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast via the Facebook profile of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ottawa. PROGRAMME: 1. Henryk Wieniawski - Fantasia on Themes from Gounod's Faust, Op. 20 Pianist STEVEN MASSICOTTE is a laureate of numerous competitions in Canada and Europe, including the Joseph-Rouleau Prize for Best Pianist from Quebec at the Montreal International Musical Competition, and 3rd Prizes at the International Chopin Competition in Czech Republic, the Shean Piano Competition and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Competition. A scholarship recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts, he has a Doctorate degree from Université de Montréal and Artist Diploma from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Steve is the pianist of the renowned Trio Fibonacci. In 2015 he started a pedagogical YouTube channel on piano playing which currently has some 4500 subscribers and over 525 000 views. NADIA MONCZAK is a Canadian violinist of Polish origin. As a soloist with orchestra and chamber musician, she has performed in Canada, United States, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Iceland, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Armenia, Spain, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico and Chile. From 2017 to 2019 she was Artistic Director of concerts at the Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall, New York. Her work teaching music in refugee camps in Greece has been recorded for CBC Arts. Nadia is a 2021 Cohort Member of the Ivy-League curated Global Leaders Program and is the current Academy Coordinator at Orford Musique. In Montreal, we cannot meet - as we do every year - at the Consulate. Therefore, tomorrow, this is on November 10 at 19:00 we are organizing "virtual celebrations". We will read in Polish and English the memories of our compatriots related to one of the most important events in our history regaining of ...independence. The game commemorates international efforts which lead to breaking the Enigma It all began with three young Polish mathematicians who broke the Enigma Code (German military coding device) 88 years ago, contributing to the success of the Allies during World War II. The first to break the code were Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Róycki & Henryk Zygalski, three Poles who worked for the Polish Intelligence Service in the SIGINT Section If you want to follow in their steps and face the challenge of breaking the code, try this game. It is free but there must be three of you to play. The game combines elements of history, math and logic. You will need to learn to encrypt and decrypt messages and solve virtual puzzles and increasingly more difficult. Currently, over 10 000 participants from all over the world have participated in previous editions of the game. The individual teams that win will receive prizes and certificates.
