Warm Wishes on Winter Solstice
The standing poses are meant to strengthen the ankles and knees. When people are mentally disturbed, dejected, you’ll notice they can’t stand firmly on their feet. These postures teach one how to stand straight, so that the brain can stay in place. It’s like the roots of a tree. If you can’t stand properly on your feet, you’ll develop a negative approach. These postures help you to maintain stability in times of catastrophe. Sparks of Divinity - BKS Iyengar Give pupils complete action and then complete relaxation. Total action brings total relaxation. Do yoga fully well and then relax at the end. #sparksofdivinity #bksiyengarquotes ... In BKS Iyengar’s translation of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - sutra III.14, he writes, Today, everyone is aware of constant ‘stress and strain’ of life. Theses aspects of consciousness which complicate life are by no means new to mankind. Patanjali’s word vyutthana, used to designate the ‘emergence of rising thought’, is equivalent to the appearance of ‘stress’. Nirodha, ‘restraint of riding thought’ is equivalent to the ‘strain’ of tying to control that stress. Striking a balance between the two is called ‘relaxation’ (santi citta). #plnyoga
