Alberta Amateur Baseball Council is recognizing individuals that contributed significantly to Alberta baseball at the grassroots level. This week's nominee, re...garding "Passion for Baseball", is Kevin Van Lagen of the Neutral Hills Academy, in Consort Alberta. Kevin is proudest of his contributions to the"rejuvenation" of baseball in East Central Alberta. He takes great satisfaction in the role he played regarding the inception and development of the Neutral Hills Academy. He is delighted that the community has supported the program, and pleased with the number of fans that attend academy games. As well, Kevin takes great satisfaction in the first-year success of the Junior Wranglers program, and its impact on the youth in his area. Kevin's baseball involvement was inspired by his children, and their love for the game. As a result of their involvement, he has developed a real affection for the sport of baseball, a game he never played as a youth. He cites Graham Schieltze as an individual who has really enjoyed working alongside, regarding the development of local baseball programs. Kevin would also like to acknowledge Graham's past volunteerism, towards baseball, as a shining example for others, regarding youth sport. In the future, Kevin would like to see more Alberta kids continue to play through their teenage years. He knows that programs, similar to the Neutral Hills Academy, help create interest in young players to keep playing. Ultimately, he would like to see more of the players that attend the Consort/Veteran academy play for Team Alberta, play at the college level, and possibly, sign a pro contract one day. The Alberta Amateur Baseball Council, and the Alberta baseball community, would like to thank Kevin for his contribution to Alberta baseball.
