As you can see the garbage pail is approximately 400 m from the gate on the north side of the river.
As we were walking down the dike a week ago we noticed that the number of coloured bags increasing because of the numbers of people walking with their dogs. We have been planning for a long time to bring the garbage can down to the dike so that people would have a place to put their bags. Within two days all of the coloured bags had disappeared and there was a very good collection in the garbage pail so PMDUES started it’s enhancement of the dike. We have been fixing ...the damage done by the winter storms and doing physical distancing at the same time. Because the society and the affiliated paddling club will eventually need members we are looking forward to the end of the pandemic. At that time we will be looking for more volunteers to prepare the riparian area for viewing. Currently we are working on the paperwork for the city zone amendment and we are looking for a volunteer QEP to provide information to the city about the proposed riparian learning and teaching centre. We will be more active with the social media now and look foreword to being able to invite the public to our society/club site. See more
I went down to empty the water from our safety boat this morning and discovered that in the past two days someone decided that cutting the towing bracket on the back of the big boat making it easy to steal the safety boat and motor. It is a 12 foot aluminum boat with a 2007 9.8 mercury four stroke engine. Pass this on if you know of anyone or any group that might be able to get it out to a lot of people. You can see the safety boat attached to the back of the big boat at the top of the picture. Thanks
The next step is now in the works, we are seeking a text amendment from the city to allow us to use the land. We also found out that there is no need for us to have discussions with the ALR because of the size and location of the property where the Society is located. Next week we will be outlining the riparian area and detailing the invasive plants to see if we will have to mitigate for any minor changes. Lots of fun.
It’s time for our society/paddling club to get to work, after two years and 130 days we have successfully acquired our tenure for the use of provincial water. ...This means that we can legally put in docks and approach the city of Pitt Meadows for our access and text amendment for the property. It feels good to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Part of our property will be devoted to the paddling club and the balance will be devoted to a user-friendly learning centre focussing on the environment. Keep coming back to follow our progress.
