A BELL TOLLS IN THE NORTH. A bell tolls in the north. Scores of heads turn to the familiar sound.... A child is crying in a dirty alleyway alone. But no head shall turn this time. Dear Values, I place you on a chain around my neck, for fear of misplacing you as easily as my glasses. If I am to go deaf, let me hear no bells. And if I am to go blind... Well, all the more room on that chain round my neck. Exterminate the idealist and praise the conformist. As hope tears its finger nails off scratching at the roof of a coffin nailed shut. Where is Providence? No change exists for the evils we cannot see, and no one has their glasses on. Mouth and Ear once hand in hand have abandoned us as well, for they no longer work together. No one will speak if no one will listen, and ears will slowly tune out all but the dinner bell. Dear Values, obsolete I place you on my dusty nightstand and now I wish to be left alone. Perhaps I will go cry in an alley... Michael James has been writing for 17 years. Since a young age he has been waging war with words, trying to quell the storm that is his mind. His waking life is plagued by doubt, wonder, hate, hope and a lust for the right words. Though, these days @mjsheldon122 writing abilities have waned, he still wishes to share a piece from his youth. #NationalPoetryMonth #sudburypoet #poetrymagazine #poetrynorth #abelltolls #litfest #sudburyontario #streamofconsciousness #thougtoftheday #canlit #localpoet #poetryofig #poetryoninstagram #torontopoet #ontariopoet #canadianpoetry

I am a creature of habit I inhabit the energies around me A foundation of repetition and other entities I am not so rock solid As I wish to believe... My motivation is conceived in the movement Pushed into the world by routine I grieve my selfishness My palpable ingratitude I built a house of attitude Insolence in the cement Unappreciation in the kitchen sink A roof of privilege to seal it all in Let yourself struggle and stress Let yourself feel worried and wrong But never forget That you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone I thank God That I can use panic as a pencil Pandemic as a learning opportunity How lucky am I To have people I miss this badly How lucky am I To have a family to drive me crazy inside I have half the mind to memorize my insides Close my eyes Give your darkest, dampest places a space to wring themselves dry breathe in deeply imagine myself healing Building coping skills like sand castles I don’t want to get outside Back to normal I want to run outdoors With betterment built into my floorboards With gratitude printed on my walls Love oozing out like a spilled shampoo bottle on my bathroom tiles Lindsay Mayhew is a 20-year-old English Major at Laurentian university, and born and raised in Sudbury! She is new to the art of poetry, but has won a poetry slam Competition with Wordstock Sudbury and is loving poetry more and more every day. I’m also a short story writer, an artist, a music enthusiast, a daughter, a sister and a friend. #NationalPoetryMonth #poetrymonth #Sudburypoets #sudburyartist #sudburywriters #northernontario #sudburyontario #greatersudbury #poetryofig #emergingpoet #emergingartist

People who live with people are narcissistic monsters. That is the quora to the question according to the administrator. I ate the last of the Doritos and drank most of the wine... I can see that it means more in quaran-times. Let’s take a walk to the river and look in The water is high. Let’s look down and stop just short of pushing each other in. Jessica Blaauw is a poet and arts educator in Sudbury, Ontario. Do you have any idea what it’s like to be burdened with this sense of want Of desire Of NEED To just know everything? To learn everything?... My gods, it’s the same pain Atlas felt The weight of the whole world is pressing down on me And instead of trying to lift the sky I open my arms and embrace it I’m drowning in my own inability to be who I want to be Can’t you see The only thing I’ve ever wanted is more And it’s killing me Gray Brogden is our next #NationalPoetryMonth Feature! @twisted_words_poetry is in her final year of high school in Sudbury and is excited to start her university career in the coming fall. She has been included in several publications, including The Sudbury Star and local, provincial, and national anthologies. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, painting, performing poetry, and of course, writing. Watch for other Sudbury poets this week!

We grew just like those green things hanging beside us but now we’re stalled Just like our coffee that’s done brewing, ... just like the snow about done melting, we’re dripping away and becoming bitter @stephanerobertart is the next featured poet for #NationalPoetryMonth! Stéphane-Robert is an emerging autodidact artist and writer based in Sudbury (ON). Drawing upon his life experiences, he explores the limits of the written word in regards to expression of emotions by persistently seeking words that are most true to human feeling. Then, through painting he expresses what words could not.
