The whole world is stuck. Often anxious, sometimes cozy, and if we’re fortunate, finding solace and hope in simple pleasures and familiar company. Winnipeg just found itself in code red. The rhythms we established over the last few months have to be adjusted once again. As a chamber ensemble, we can’t gather and sing, but we’re alive and hopeful. We wanted to interpret and share some resilience with you.... Artistic Director John Wiens refers to the piece of music in this video: "The story of Nunc Dimitis reflects the moments before, during, and after a long period of waiting. It portrays Simeon, moving with difficulty, but as devoted to his wish as ever. Every day he comes to a spot and waits hoping to see this important thing come to fruition. As he sees what he has been waiting for in the distance, his heart begins to sing these words, words he has been contemplating for many years - 'Lord, let me now depart in peace My eyes have seen what you have prepared A light to bring us out of darkness'. In the midst of this moment of deep peace is the ecstasy of realization: a life of waiting and embracing a new lightness of being. May it be so for us all. Sending you love in this time of waiting, everyone.

@theuniter featured a great piece on Winnipeg's "vibrant, diverse and thriving" classical music scene. "Polycoro, a professional chamber choir founded in 2015, which is known for their innovative programming and immersive concerts. Their performances often involve, according to their website, submerging audiences in a multi-sensoral musical landscape that include things like a concert in the Manitoba Museum’s planetarium."
