Why is truck backed into the shed? Flowers a few days ago are now covered in snow!
What a lovely day to enjoy the fresh air! The slow and steady rain of the past few days has been great for the black currant bushes.
Today was a lovely spring day and the black currant bushes are full of buds! This sky with the moon crescent over the field is absolutely beautiful and a walk in the field is enchanting with the little chorus frogs! The Spring Peepers have their loud voices on tonight!

We had a wonderful crew of young people picking and sorting our Black Currants this summer. They worked very hard in spite of the extreme heat. Thank goodness for the breezes coming off the water! We are also grateful for a neighbour who is always willing to help whenever he is needed. Last but not least, a big thank-you to our friend and bookkeeper who always does an excellent job of taking care of business! It was a very interesting time and we felt more people discovered us this year which was a pleasant surprise. Thank you to all those who came to pick or purchase our fresh & frozen Black Currants as well as our Black Currant Spread and the Sauce & Drink Mix. We appreciate it very much!
LAST WEEKEND FOR PICKING BLACK CURRANTS. This was an extremely short season in 2020!

Please note that our hours for the u-pick are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
WE ARE LOCAL FOOD PRODUCERS IN BRIGHTON, ONTARIO. We work hard with our team to provide nutritious black currants, which are available fresh for another couple of weeks and frozen for year-round use. We also have our lovely Black Currant Spread and Black Currant Sauce & Drink Mix.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS TO DO WITH PICKING BLACK CURRANTS PLEASE SEND US AN EMAIL TO [email protected] AS WE DO NOT RECEIVE MESSAGES FROM FACEBOOK ON OUR PHONES. WE HAVE OUR PHONES WITH US MOST OF THE DAY BUT DO NOT CHECK THE COMPUTER. THANK YOU!
We had a jolly good visit today when Chef Ben Heaton and Matt Blondin stopped by to pick up some freshly picked black currants!
TODAY IS JULY 13th, 2020 AND OUR FIRST DAY OF PICKING THIS YEAR'S BLACK CURRANT CROP! Who would like to join our team of pickers, or who would like to pick their own? We have a U-Pick open all day, seven days a week, so come on down to 503 Lakeshore Road, Brighton, Ontario! This is a short season of about 4 weeks. We are following COVID-19 guidelines as per the instructions of Dr. A. Lynn Noseworthy, the Medical Officer of Health for HKPR District Health Unit.... Thank you to all those who have already contacted us!
Getting sliced strawberries ready for the dehydrator!
Beautiful strawberries from Cheer Farms - they are delicious!
IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN.....Summer is arriving with an abundance of fruits and vegetables and we are so grateful to have so much available here in eastern Ontario! Popham Lane Farm requires pickers, for berry sorting and packaging once again from mid-July to late August 2020 to manually harvest black currants. Normally work begins at 8:00 a.m. It is challenging work especially if the temperatures are climbing. You will need protective clothing, waterproof footwear as morning... dew covers the grass. Sunscreen is very important and wearing a hat is an excellent idea. Please bring your own water bottle which can be filled throughout the day as well as a lunch. You will be required to stand, sit, or kneel and stay six feet apart from other pickers. In our sorting shop we will provide masks and gloves. We have a strict protocol when using our indoor washroom, which will be kept clean and disinfected throughout the day. If you are interested or have any questions, please call or email. Please do not contact us through Facebook as we do not access it often. You may call or text Joe at 613-475-2726 or send an email to [email protected]
IT IS TIME! We have delivered our products to FOODLAND in Colborne and FISHER'S FOODLAND in Cobourg. We will be contacting other SOBEYS and FOODLAND stores that carry our products in Brighton, Picton, Wellington, Newcastle, Oshawa, Whitby and Ajax in the next few weeks. We hope to have some photos to post of these stores that carry LOCAL PRODUCTS.
We want to let you know we have our Black Currant Spread and Sauce available at the farm as well as FROZEN black currants! As you can imagine, we do not go far at the moment, and are not making deliveries of our products to stores i.e. Sobeys and Foodland as they are extremely busy working to keep their stores super clean, as well as stocking many basic groceries at this time and trying to serve their customers in the best way possible. SO, if you would like to come for a drive and stop in at the farm, you can pick up our products (from a safe distance) any day of the week. Our FROZEN Black Currants come in 4 lb pails or 20 lb boxes. Just a reminder, here is our phone number 613-475-2726.
