Here is the first draft of a poem I've been working on. The Lantern Shadows enveloped the bunkhouse... As the day surrendered to night Jon nearly knocked over the table While looking for something to light Miraculously found a lantern In the corner under some debris Now if he could find his matches Might actually be able to see Luckily got that lantern lit It took all but his last match Shone it towards the wood stove As he reached to open the latch Threw in some old paper and wood Used his last match to light the flame Heard a noise coming from outside That he really couldn’t explain Jon grabbed the Lantern and his rifle Before slowly opening the door Light from the lantern pierced the darkness As he left the bunkhouse to explore Jon could almost see the entire yard And nothing seemed outta place A couple barn cats were playing tag And his mare staring him in face Thought he heard horses approaching Riders appeared out of the darkness Couple of tired hands coming home Light exposed the bunkhouse’s starkness Before the hands even dismounted A rider came out of the shadows He was lost, tired, and scared, Never mind being bout half froze Had left a neighboring ranch For a leisurely evening ride Got turned around at nightfall Spent hours riding far and wide Saw the light from Jon’s lantern Immediately turned towards it Was sure there’d be help there Certainly, hoped that it stayed lit Jon was quick to say welcome here Reassuring the lost rider They were safe with a place to stay would get them home when lighter In the Bible God reminds us He came into the world as light In Him there is no darkness Those once dirty are made white Like the light from that old lantern Our Faith should shine just as bright Reaching out to those who are lost Helping them live in His pure light Ephesians 5:8 for though once your heart was full of darkness, now it is full of light from the Lord, and your behavior should show it. this is a poem I wrote a few years ago but still holds true today. hope you enjoy it. Resolutions Much to my chagrin A new year is about to begin, ... Do I have to make resolutions Some might be reruns, I haven’t completed the old ones I’ll just make substitutions I’ve showed restraint, not covering the barn in new paint To me it makes sense Imagine that, the water truck still has a flat Never mind about the fence. There’s no doubt, we can live without Re-hanging the pasture gate Just so you know, still lose our bull Maybe the gate can’t wait Just found a note, says time to break the colt It was written last year I’ll add that to the fun that still needs to be done When I get my butt in gear Aw here’s more proof, still need to shingle the roof Its leaking lots Now you can see why the wife’s mad at me I’m using all her pots Wife’s wearing a frown, the front door fell down I forgot to fix the frame She’s looking really riled, just headed me a list she compiled Life’s not gonna be the same No more resolutions, she wants solutions To finally get things done She’s a doubting Thomas but I really promise This next year is the one. December 22nd already. Christmas this year will be different then most of us have ever seen. Always remember it's not about gifts, lights or tree. It's about a baby boy. I hope you enjoy today's poem. No Strangers at Christmas Still early Christmas morning... We’ve been up for hours Children opening presents While others take showers Getting ready for Church Is a Christmas tradition Service begins at 10 am It a wonderful Addition My Robertson was there Greeting people at the door The pews were filling fast Children sitting on the floor People were greeting each other With best wishes and love No strangers at Christmas Like God’s plan from above Pastor started preaching Sharing the Christmas story How the baby Jesus Was born in God’s Glory We sang Christmas hymns Glorifying the Holy Birth The Holy Spirit was present When Jesus came to earth When the service ended We were filled with the love shown Then mom saw Mr Robertson Sitting in a corner all alone He looked sad and lonely Since his wife passed away Mom decided right there He wouldn’t be alone this day Mom walked right up to him Inviting him home with us He reluctantly accepted Mom said there’s nothing to discuss Mr Robertson sat up front Well the rest squeezed on back As soon as we pulled in I was asking for a snack So much to choose from But mom said manners please So I waited for Mr. Robertson As he chose pickles and cheese I saw Mr. Robertson smile At the commotion all around Kids running and laughing Him enjoying the joyous sound Then it was time for dinner And we all found our place A special spot for our guest Mr. Robertson said grace Supper was wonderful But the company was the best So many Christmas memories Each new one better than the rest Was sorry when it ended And Mr. Robertson had to leave He had added so much joy And that’s hard to achieve There are no strangers at Christmas Only friends we’ve never met The Holy Spirit will lead you To the best Christmas yet. Sunday December 20th 2020. Hope you enjoy this poem. Explains what the season is really about. Why I Celebrate Christmas So December has come again... And Christmas music fills the air Most houses drip with decorations Might still hear the odd prayer But on the ranch life continues Animals to feed, chores to do No tree, lights or ornaments Have a winter to get through Preg checking cows and heifers Searchin’ for them lost strays Feedin’ and waterin’ livestock Takin’ up most of my days Normally only head to town When I need more provisions Except course this time of year Other factors influence my decisions December is the time of advent Preachers preach about the star How angels appeared to shepherds And Wise men travelled from afar They tell how in a lowly manger The Christ Child came to be born How God sent him to save us On the first Christmas morn Children’s choirs sing Carols Proclaiming He has come How a young boy gifted Jesus By playing for Him on a drum All this helps to remind me Why I celebrate Christmas at all It’s never been about trees or lights Going to parties or drinkin’ alcohol I celebrate God’s greatest gift The Holy birth of His Son To me this is the only reason And I only need one Head back to the ranch Feelin’ rejuvenated Spirit is again inside me Not soon to be deflated This is why I still celebrate Christmas after all these years Knowing Jesus is my savoir Still brings me to tears Poppa Mac Inc. 2018 Christmas in the Country
