Stuck at home with the kids for 3 weeks? . Consider adding a few basic life skills to whatever learning plan you're tackling (if you've got one). Healthy food, cooking and prep are super things to teach outside of the classroom! Get experimental with it, don't put too much pressure on yourself. . Here are a few ideas (pick and choose according to age):... . - Food prep and safety skills (washing produce, proper cooking temperatures of meats, washing hands, kitchen clean up, etc.) - Healthy nutrition principles (using colourful fruits and veggies, getting variety in your diet, creating balanced and satisfying meals full of micronutrients, etc.) - Making easy no cook, healthy recipes (the PoppyFit blog has many, including overnight oats and no-bake healthy treats like PoppyFit protein balls, peanut butter bars, berry squares, etc.) - Learning to use kitchen tools and appliances (mashing potatoes, baking one-tray meals, making healthy muffins or banana bread, learning to use a slow cooker, etc.) . RECIPE: ULTIMATE CHOCOLATE GREENS SMOOTHIE . I just got home from walking Kaiju and whipped up this smoothie....which was way too good not to share. I've got a meeting this morning and had little time to prep something, so I threw this together. . I've been having a veggie smoothie almost every day for a while now, and this one is probably my favourite.... . . Ingredients . 1 scoop chocolate protein powder 1 cup milk (I used unsweetened almond) 1 frozen banana (super important to have it frozen!) 1-2 large handfuls frozen spinach 1 TB cacao powder (unsweetened) 1 TB cacao nibs . Blend and enjoy! This smoothie is an awesome snack - it's super filling and incredibly satisfying . Do you try incorporating veggies in your smoothies? Combine (in a bowl or blender): .... 1.5TB vanilla whey protein powder 1.5TB regular pancake mix 1/4C egg whites 1/4C cottage cheese 1/4tsp baking powder 1/4tsp vanilla extract .
