Erik started a six week program with us that led right into the COVID-19 shut down so he continued his challenge remotely. He then continued with membership and kept moving forward despite the giant setback society had as a whole during that period of time. Hes tenacious and persistent and hes embraced the process even with the hurdles and hiccups that come up along the way. ... Erik is a pleasure to have as a part of our gym family, even when hes giving us the gears lol. Heres what Erik has to say about our little gym and how hes doing so far :) Proud of you buddy!!

Ohhhh how we want to believe that the journey to where we are trying to go is linear. Me too, me too. Good and bad news all rolled into one my pretties: it's not. Often times it can be a hot mess of falling on your ass and into the muck and having to pick yourself back up again and then continuing on, sometimes, you're climbing a hard hill, and you legit barrel roll down the hill and have to start over from a setback. FML right? It's ok, we have all been there.... Look.... I would LOVE to tell you that its super easy... it isn't, but it is not impossible and it's totally doable and dare I say enjoyable and rewarding with the right approach. You just have to be patient and persistent. The most patient person wins this game, don't forget that. And its okay that your journey has been a little erratic, ups and downs, hiccups and full on face plants... if it wasn't... I'd call you out on being full of shit. lol (I say this with love) It's ok to screw up, it's ok to be imperfect, and it's ok to have an off day. It's part of the process. As long as you don't quit, you're not failing. Keep going. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just keep on going! You are a friggin rock star!! You've got this!!

OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND - JUNK FOOD Having junk food in the house and accessible is a surefire way to make sure that at some point it will call to you and you will consume it. There is nothing wrong with incorporating treats into your overall nutrition strategy. ... But...if you have had it happen before where you cannot stay out of junk food when it's in the house, then don't keep it in the house. That's one extra barrier to ending up in a serious snaccident that could derail your otherwise stellar day of nutrition. The best thing to do is when you've planned for a treat, go out and get said item in a serving that makes sense for one human being (or the number of human beings that will be partaking) Keeping family sized bags and boxes of it (hello Costco membership ) in your house is tempting and eventually someone will end up eating it, and possibly too much of it to make it fit into your day while still eating for your goals. If you can't keep it out of the house. Keep it out of sight in a spot that's a pain to get access to on a frequent basis.

Sometimes you have to make a call on how to proceed with your fitness goals given the time of year... Yes, we just got out of lock down about a month ago with respect to gyms, and YES COVID RUINED OUR SUMMER BOD DREAMS... but don't throw it all away til the fall! It's still a worthwhile pursuit for a plethora of reasons like, mental health (that's a biggie right now), energy levels, sleep quality, getting stronger, getting faster, better endurance... all things that don't re...ally have to do with a number on the scale or your pant size. Consider this: What if.... you focus on non-scale training and habits, and maybe maintaining instead of aggressively pursuing fat loss? Example: you're eating a little more... it's the perfect time to work on getting stronger and building a little muscle. :) You'll put yourself in a better position for the fall when the hoopla/patio/BBQ season starts to die down a little. OR.. What if... you take a more relaxed approach to food and drink during the summer and just be mindful that things are moving in the right direction, even if its slower than other times of the year? Yes you're still moving along but you're not saying no to a donut or a pint with friends or a couple slices of pizza a couple times a week. Not a bad deal really. We can't always be pedal to the metal 24/7 but we can shift gears and shift focus to suit the situation and pursue non-scale, non-body composition goals. Now...there are some of you that are totally fine with the hot pursuit of fat loss even during the summer, and also that is totally okay too! I guess what i'm saying is keep an open mind when it comes to your goals, and the time of year and what you have going on in your social calendar. If you're struggling, reassess what you're doing, life is short, and if you feel like a sad sack right now, maybe what I wrote above resonates with you. Ps. Here's a fun photo of myself and Coach Amy on a zoom workout during the COVID shut down wearing our apocalypse outfits, enjoy!

Don't take the easy road. The easy road never leads anywhere good. Doing things that challenge you promote personal growth and build discipline, character and integrity. Whether it's with respect to life in general or in the gym, do the hard thing. It will pay dividends. I promise

Mind your bites, licks and tastes. They can add up and take you out of a calorie deficit (needed to drop body fat) or even put you into a calorie surplus (needed to gain weight). Speaking of, have you ever tracked your food intake with an app or journal before? Comment below!

There's no such thing as the one perfect diet. - fight me. (jk) The diet industry hammers on this constantly. Diet products, low fat, Vegan, low carb, south beach, weight loss shakes, pills and all of that ilk and are banking on you believing that their diet product is the silver bullet that will end your weight troubles for good. I call bullshit. ... The number one rule to weight loss is calorie deficit. Any diet can work for weight loss as long as there is a consistent calorie deficit. Whether it is optimal or not is the question. There was a doctor that did the "Twinkie diet" and lost a bunch of weight. Google it, this actually happened. Why? CALORIE DEFICIT. Was it healthy? Probably not. But he was driving home the point that any diet can work. So now, it's just a matter of what works for you. The most important question you need to answer for yourself is: "Can I eat this way long term?" Whenever you're looking at a diet plan or nutrition plan or whatever name you like to use for it examine it and go through these questions. Is it simple? Is it nutritious? (vegetables and wide range of foods) Is it flexible? Is it sustainable? If the answer is yes, then chances are you have found a viable plan that can work for you. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to message my page or message me directly. Have an awesome weekend!
