Lots of fishing line and lures found on the banks today, including a spoon that was an actual spoon with hooks attached to it.

Please come out to assist this clean up on Sunday morning. We will be lending a few dozen trash grabbing sticks to this effort. It would be great if we had a few dozen people to go with them! Many hands make for light work, and a cleaner shoreline.

We are happy to support this effort. Port Credit busines need a hand. Please contribute if you can.

Sad news. Steve Rivard volunteered a lot of time and energy to support Lake Ontario’s fisheries.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Wayne Wilson, Charter Captain of Fishy Business. Wayne ran his charter from the docks on the Credit River. Wayne mentored many anglers and charter captains over the years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family. ... RIP Wayne

Making a gift list? Tell families and friends to call Port Credit's tackle shops. Once they have a budget, they can fill your stocking better than anyone else you know, and and you will be supporting local businesses. Spread the word. Let's get them through this difficult time. Big slick of some kind on the Credit River this afternoon. Ministry of the Environmemt and a million other people are looking at it tonight. Little is known. It seems to have originated from around Queensway. We will pass along updates when we have good information, and we’re confident that we will get it. It will probably take time. Last we heard, the Ministry of the Environment was looking at containment and clean-up options.

We know many have an itch that NEEDS to be scratched. We also know that we have infected healthcare workers on respirators, and significant outbreaks in long term care homes in both urban and rural communities. Please make plans to avoid others and help fight the spread of COVID-19. The sooner we beat it, the safer we will all be, and the better our summer will be. If you are heading out, do your homework to see what is open and closed. For example, parking lots at municipal parks in Mississauga are closed.

Can you go fishing in Port Credit? People have been struggling to figure out what fishing is open and what is closed. The answer has two parts: 1. Fishing regulations have not changed. 2. There are provincial, municipal and public health orders that have been introduced under a province-wide Emergency Declaration. These orders vary across the province and they apply broadly. Under these orders, Mississauga's park facilities and parking lots are closed. You can use parks to... exercise, but not to socialize. You can pass through them, but you cannot picnic in them, etc. People are being advised to stay well apart from others, and to only associate with people from their own household, etc. Ignore those orders and you will probably get a warning. If you are serious about ignoring them, expect a stiff fine. Mississauga has a relatively high infection level, and it goes without saying that a fishing trip is non-essential travel. If you can walk to a fishing spot, you may be OK. If that spot is in a park, police or by-law officers will probably ask you to keep moving. For the sake of everyone who must work through this period, and for the sake of people who are at high risk from COVID-19, we encourage you to do your part to slow down the spread of COVID-19 in Mississauga. Avoid situations that can spread the virus, even if you feel fine. Act as though you have it, because you might. Many people get it and have no symptoms. For the latest local information, this Peel Region web page is a good place to start. It has links to the City of Mississauga page and the Province of Ontario's COVID-19 pages, etc.: https://www.peelregion.ca/coronavirus/ See more

This just in... the COVID-19 pandemic has taken out the 2020 Great Ontario Salmon Derby. IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, April 16, 2020 ... It is with profound sadness that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Great Ontario Salmon Derby, which was scheduled to take place from July 4 August 22. We have been closely monitoring the continuing developments with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as following the guidance of the federal, provincial and municipal governments. While we were very hopeful that we would be able to proceed with the 24th edition of the Derby, we believe ensuring public health and safety is paramount. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, charter operators and participants. It is your passion and commitment that makes the Derby the fantastic event that it is. It is our fervent hope that you and your families stay safe and well through this unprecedented period and we look forward to planning the 2021 Great Ontario Salmon Derby. About Canadian National Sportsmen's Shows (CNSS) and Great Ontario Salmon Derby Canadian National Sportsmen's Shows (CNSS) is Canada's largest producer of outdoor shows and a not-for-profit corporation. Folks, COVID-19 has affected our ability to stock and rear pen fish in a manner that keeps people safe and healthy. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has paused stocking plans for now. We expect that this year's fish will make it to the lake, bigger, later and using different approaches than we normally use. We support the decision. It is in the best interests of Ministry staff and volunteers.

Are you able to help us find the trumpeter swans wintering in your region? This region is known for having trumpeter swans in the winter. We would be grateful for your help. It’s time for the 2020 North American Trumpeter Swan Census. We need people to help us count the swans on February 1, 2020 with back--up dates of January 31 and February 2. This is a list of known wintering sites for trumpeter swans in Ontario. You may know of others and I would greatly appreciate knowi...ng where these sites are as well. Please send me a message and I would be happy to add your information to our database. It’s really quite simple. On February 1, 2020 head out and find the trumpeter swans. Trumpeter swans have all black bills (no orange on them at all - see the photo with this posting). Tundra swans have black bills but also have a yellow spot just in front of their eye. They are smaller and make a who who sound versus the trumpeter who sounds like a trumpet. Count the number of swans you see. How many are white (adult)? How many are gray? (cygnets). Record your numbers. Record your location. Here is the link to the 2020 Census from The Trumpeter Swan Society: http://bit.ly/ONSwan_Survey. Everything you need can be found at this link or I can send you a data sheet for you to send in or you can send me your results and I will complete the data sheet if that is easier for you. It’s whatever works best for you. We will compile the reports and they will become part of our census. You will have be a part of trumpeter swan history! Thanks for being willing to help us. I look forward to hearing from you.The wintering sites we need covered include, but are not limited to:
