Update info from Curl BC. https://www.curlbc.ca/covid-19-update-dec-8/
Port Moody Curling Club is unable to proceed with curling over January-March 2021. The City of Port Moody advised the Club that they were cancelling our ice contracts. They cited the need to hire staff, the costs associated with installing and especially maintaining the ice given the reduced number of leagues operating, and a planned renovation to establish a coffee kiosk near the lobby, as reasons why they could not accommodate a shortened curling season. Our Board and staff, and especially those on the Covid-19 subcommittee, did a lot of work to ensure that curling could resume safely in the new year. As the City has guaranteed that curling will resume in Fall 2021, we will continue to monitor the health and safety guidelines and will update our protocols accordingly. Looking forward to seeing everyone next season.
The time to register for the upcoming curling season is here. Hooray, registration is open and extends until Friday, November 19, 2020 at midnight. The Covid-19 committee has worked extremely hard to implement protocols and safety measures to help our members return to curling. In having said that there are still so many unknowns about this virus. As you know we are opening under different circumstances than in previous years. What does that mean for PMCC curlers?... 1. Masks/face coverings are mandatory when you enter the recreation center and up until you step onto the ice. Mandatory masks/face coverings on the ice is under review by Curl BC, a decision is expected in the next few weeks. 2. We are asking members of PMCC to not curl at any other club. If you have curled in another club you are required to have a 14-day break before entering PMCC facility. 3. There will be no refunds given unless the City or PMCC cancels the season. 4. The PMCC(Pandemic) membership fee has been reduced to $25.00 along with the Curl BC affiliation fee reduced to $8.00 while the Curling Canada fee remains the same at $2.00. 5. If your decision is not to curl in January, please remember for you to be able to vote at the PMCC AGM in March you need to be a Club member ($25.00). How to register? Go to: https://curling.io, click on Find your club, put Port Moody Curling Club in the Search box, click on the arrow in the Province box, select British Columbia and then click on the black box with a picture of a magnifying glass. PMCC will come up then click on the red box, Registration. Look for your league, click on it and complete the registration process.
Calling all shutterbugs! We are updating the Port Moody Curling Club website over the coming months, and are in need of photos that capture league activities, bonspiel fun, end of year celebrations and the like. Please forward any photos that we may use on our site, to Janice van Veen, Club Administrator, at [email protected]
Dear PMCC members, Hope you’re keeping cool on these hot summer days. We have learned more details from the City regarding returning to curling during the Covid-19 pandemic. The City has confirmed that curling will be in Phase 4 of their Move Forward plan. This means that we will not return to curling until January 2021. We continue to work on our Return the Curling document, which will be submitted to the City for their approval. This document is informed by guidelines we are receiving from Curling Canada and Curl BC and reflects our priority to keep the health and safety of our membership front and centre. We will be in touch further as we learn more in the coming months.
