Port Rowan Legion 20.12.2020

Branch #379 is now closed and will reopen Thursday, January 28th at 2pm. As we celebrate Christmas this year, we encourage everyone to continue to follow the advice of our public health officials, so that our time apart can come to an end as soon as possible. Remember this is not forever and we will all be together again soon. Merry Christmas to all, and cheers to 2021 and the end of 2020!

The Legion has lost one of its best friends. Earl Poole was the best neighbor and friend anyone could have. Doing so much for us, we never realized how much until he moved away. We have missed you so much since you moved, and will forever miss you our friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marilyn and Pam and their family

Some things to keep in mind as we prepare to reopen: Anyone who purchased tickets for the Wing dinner and music event cancelled in March, if you would like a refund please bring in your tickets to the bar and well be happy to do so. We are now accepting payment for 2021 dues. Rate remains the same, $47 if paid by November 30th, $50 after. We have several members still owing 2020 dues, payment of $50 is still being accepted.... Both years dues can either be paid at the bar, mailed to PO Box 131, Port Rowan, N0E 1M0, or online at www.legion.ca. We are always welcoming new members, applications are available at the bar. Wed like to thank everyone in our community for their concern and support during this difficult time. Whether with offers to help, words of encouragement, or monetary donations, its all so appreciated. Remember everyone is always welcome into our branch anytime! See you soon

Port Rowan Legion Branch #379 has decided not to open the patio at this time. Although this will be a disappointment to many, we believe this is the responsible action to take to keep our staff, members and the community safe. In addition to the safety concerns, there would be much expense to comply with regulations, and with limited capacity, we believe it would not be feasible. Additionally, many volunteers would be needed to ensure compliance with safety procedures, and we do not wish to put anyone in harms way. We look forward to seeing everyone in the future, but please be patient as we deal with the situation at hand. Thanks for your understanding.

Dear Bayfest friends, supporters and the Port Rowan community, We wanted to take a minute to update you on our plans for Bayfest 2020. Our annual festival is a... long standing tradition in Port Rowan and with everything that is happening with COVID-19 right now, we were hopeful that this annual tradition would be able to bring the community together and celebrate as we normally would on Labour Day. The committee has been mulling this decision over since this pandemic started, but unfortunately, we have to cancel Bayfest for this year. It is disheartening for us, as it is for our community we are sure, but we want to keep the safety and health of our community our top priority. With no clear outline on when people will be able gather in groups let alone in large setting such as a community festival, the committee cannot properly plan for an event of this scale. The festival also relies heavily on local community support, business donations and sponsorships, and we cannot ask local business to support us, some who have not been open for many weeks, when they will need the community to support them when that time comes and they can reopen. We were optimistic that we would be able to continue in some capacity this year on a smaller scale such as a one day event, but we have also been notified that Norfolk County, will not be issuing special event permits till at least September 7th 2020, so we are unable to proceed with any smaller type event. We want to thank you and the business community for supporting us year after year, we will still be selling tickets and holding our Gun Raffle to be drawn September 4th, 2020 as previously announced. You can contact a Bayfest Committee member who will ensure you can purchase a ticket/s. As hard as this is, the committee will continue to fundraise when we are able to, and we will continue to plan for next year and focus on bringing new exciting things to Bayfest in 2021. We want to ensure this great tradition continues, in a town we are all proud to call home. We hope everyone stays safe and takes care of each other in this great community. Your Bayfest Committee
