Hey Justin Trudeau. Do you remember this photo? This was taken while you were on the campaign trail back in 2015. You were kissing babies with the best of the...m. That little girl you’re holding? She sat on my lap day in and day out while her daddy and I started our family business, Poseidon Ocean Systems. This week you announced a horrible prospective policy to end ocean based salmon farming on B.C’s coast. The policy you announced is irresponsible and an obvious attempt to pander to lower mainland voters far removed from industry facts. Your government promised to create policies based on science. The science is clear; ocean based farming is sustainable and environmentally friendly. Aquaculture supports over 6,000 jobs on the island and Northern BC communities. Farm-raised salmon is the highest value agricultural export we have in this province. There has been no scientific evidence of salmon farming causing harm to wild salmon, and aquaculture has the smallest environmental footprint compared to all other farm raised protein. Little girls grow up. That baby girl is now the poster child for BC Salmon Farmers Association. She is smart and inquisitive, and has thoughts and opinions all her own now. Your policy will have an immense affect on her young life. When her friends move away because their families no longer have jobs in our community, what would you like me to tell her? When the little league and other programs she attends are canceled due to lack of major sponsorship donations from local companies like Cermaq Canada, Mowi Canada West and Grieg Seafood BC Ltd, what would you like me to tell her? On October 21st, I'm going to choose a candidate and party that truly cares for my daughter; not just photo ops and pandering policy. We have a choice to make, let's make the right one.
