We are thrilled to announce our undergraduate fellowship recipients for 2020-21! The 10 students in this year’s cohort hail from six different research clust...ers and are engaging in topics ranging from accessible medical design to textile exploration of astrophysical concepts. Each fellow is enriching the work of both their cluster, and Milieux at large. We are proud to welcome them as the next generation of critical and creative researchers. The fellowship recognizes undergraduate students who are advancing discussion and practice in their respective research clusters. Each student, nominated by Milieux’s faculty affiliates, will receive a $500 stipend, and access to Milieux resources to develop their projects over the academic year. In February, the fellows will take part in an online Pecha-Kucha presentation open to all Milieux members and staff. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with Milieux, and share some (digital) warmth and energy as we go forward into 2021 together. More details to come! Read more about the fellowship recipients on our website: TAG Research Center / Textiles & Materiality Research Cluster / AbTeC: Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace / The Post Image Cluster / Le PARC Milieux / Speculative Life Research Cluster https://milieux.concordia.ca/welcome-undergraduate-fellows/

Tomorrow at 11:30 am, join The Post Image Cluster for our first event of the semester: an artist talk with Aanchal Malhotra (Concordia MFA '15) moderated by Marisa Portolese. Aanchal Malhotra is an oral historian and writer, living in New Delhi, India. She is the co-founder of the Museum of Material Memory - a digital repository tracing family histories and social ethnography through heirlooms, collectibles and antiques from the Indian subcontinent. Malhotra writes extensively on the 1947 Partition and its related topics. Her debut book traced a human history of the event through the mundane objects and heirlooms refugees chose to carry to either side of the border in 1947. She is currently writing an oral history on the generational impact of Partition. https://www.facebook.com/events/3767662096590355/

FILM PREMIERE Post Image member Sanaz Sohrabi’s film One Image, Two Acts is premiering as part of the RIDM festival, available until November 18th!... One Image, Two Acts unravels the multifaceted and intertwined systems of oil infrastructures spanned and accumulated across unlikely geographies and material temporalities. Examining the photographic and film archives of British Petroleum (BP) during its operations in Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait, this film traces the visual and media infrastructures through which oil has operated as an agent of power in the colonial episteme. It unpacks BP’s widespread construction of cinemas in the oil towns of South-Western Iran and follows the transformation of this emergent image economy in contouring the nationalization movement and the anti-colonial cinema between 1950-1980 in Iran." Viewing is accessible to those in the Montreal and broader Quebec region. More info here: https://ridm.ca/en/films/une-image-deux-actes #PostImage #Filmmakers #RIDM #MilieuxInstitute
