TODAY WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - 4PM We at POV are ecstatic to announce the launch of our new series in partnership with DGC Ontario: The Process, a monthly series aimed at emerging creatives!... The Process invites top Canadian filmmakers and POV Alumni to engage in a focused discussion on a singular topic or theme related to the craft of filmmaking. We want our audience to walk away with inspiring lessons, hard-won insights and practical knowledge that they can use in their own filmmaking practice. For our first topic this September we are focusing on: Portraying Social Issue-Driven Stories on Screen with Depth and Authenticity. When you’re portraying a story that seeks to highlight an important cause or aims to represent the unique experiences of a community, the stakes can feel high. What are the hallmark signs of a well-told issue-driven story And how can filmmaking approach sensitive subjects with depth, creativity and accuracy? Exploring this topic with us will be Kelly Fyffe-Marshall (Black Bodies, TIFF 2020) and Tiffany Hsiung (Sing Me a Lullaby, TIFF 2020), two filmmakers with a track record of depicting community stories and challenging topics on screen with vulnerability, authenticity and great storytelling ability. The discussion will be moderated by POV Alumni and filmmaker, Sunita Miya-Muganza to shed light on their process and leave the audience with practical advice for filmmakers looking to represent important topics on screen. Join us for this meaningful conversation and register through: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Jqbq0zCJTPWRGdqNnxoC1Q

Join us for a premiere screening of the six performance videos created by artists from our POVLabs: Ballroom cohort this summer. This Lab, run in partnership with the Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance (TKBA) and supported by Ontario Camera paired LGBTQ+ and ally filmmakers with LGBTQ+ performers in the Toronto Kiki Ballroom scene. The results? Six impactful videos that speak to the beauty, power, politics and passion of the Ballroom community in Toronto. Set a reminder, this is going to be fireee!
