Super excited to launch our Ways of Knowing Facilitation and Leadership Training! It is a program designed by Indigenous People for Indigenous People and is foc...used on ways we can bring our whole selves into spaces and invite our groups to do the same. It starts February 16th and goes until April 24. It is 10 weeks, 4 hours/week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The program is free to participants. Requirements: First Nations, Metis or Inuit. Residing in what is referred to as BC. Interested in becoming a trainer or desire to build confidence working with groups. www.waysofknowing.ca

Setting intentions: what does this next year ahead hold for you? At the beginning of every camp we spend our first morning together as a community setting our intentions for the time ahead. What are you challenging yourself to do this year? What is your intention for this time? How can you be gentle with yourself, or strong for yourself? I'd like to invite you to do the same. Take some quiet time to reflect, and once you have your intention ready, share your intention with ...someone else - in our practise we share our intentions aloud, put them somewhere visible, and ask our community: "Do you support me?" It's Giving Tuesday! This year has been hard on all of us, and we hope that it will be safe for us to gather again as a community next summer. Dear Power of Hope Community, We hope that this message finds you safe, settled, and well. You have all been in our thoughts as we navigate this unusual time. It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Power of Hope has made the decision to cancel our summer camps for 2020.... In light of the current pandemic, we know it would be irresponsible to gather and face the possibility of infection in our camp community or any of the larger communities you are all connected to. It feels heartbreaking not to be able to gather this summer. Please know that we are working out how we can best support and stay in touch with you while we all keep safe. One idea floating is an online 'open mic night' in the near future where zillas and youth can share offerings of music and art to uplift and encourage each other. We could have a signup list...and yes, there would be chicken-ins. :) We welcome your creative ideas and how they might work. Emily and I would be SO. HAPPY. to receive a message from you. Even if you just want to reach out and let us know how you are doing - we'd love to connect with you. Emailing us at [email protected] is the best way to reach us. The logistics of cancelling our season means that financially we are in a very tight spot as an organization. In the next week we will be fully refunding everyone who has registered and paid a Light the Fire deposit so far. I know some of you have suggested that we might keep your deposit and apply it to next year's fees if we had to cancel, but the grim reality is that we cannot promise there will be camp next year unless we raise more funds. We will continue to be in touch and let you know how you can help. It's not ideal timing to be asking anyone for donations when so many are out of work or in otherwise difficult positions right now! However, if you ARE in a position to give monthly or as a one-time donation - that will definitely help ensure that there will be a Power of Hope after this pandemic has ended.
