Some major #tax measures announced by the federal government to battle the #coronavirus outbreak facing Canadians: * Tax Deadlines - any tax balances or installments due on or after today and before September will now be due August 31st. Personal tax filing deadline pushed to June 1st. * Acceptance of electronic signatures as a temporary measure (hopefully a permanent one!) * A new Emergency Care Benefit (up to $900 biweekly for 15 weeks) for those who need to stay at home an...d cannot work, and don't qualify for paid sick leave and/or EI. * A new Emergency Support Benefit, also for those that do not qualify for EI and are unable to work. * A temporary boost to the Canada Child Benefit, proposed to increase by up to $300 per child/month. * A 6 month reprieve on student loan payments and an increase in the GST credit. * For businesses - a proposed wage subsidy of 10% up to a maximum of $1,375 per employee and $25,000 per employer. * For businesses - CRA will not contact any small-med sized businesses to initiate post assessments or audits during the next 4 weeks. Also announced: expanded access to credit from the BDC and EDC. Big Six banks also proposing to defer mortgage payments for up to 6 months among other measures.
