Josefina de Vasconcellos stated the concept of this sculptor was born out of a story he read about the aftermath of the war. A woman traveled across Europe on foot in search of her husband. When they were reunited, they fell on their knees embracing each other. Since the casting of the original sculpture, four more similar sculptures were made and the name changed from Reunion to Reconciliation. They are located at Coventry Cathedral, England; Hiroshima Peace Park, Japan; Sto...rmont Estate, Belfast; and Berlin, Germany. Each of these four sculptures symbolize that even in the midst of some of the most horrifying and deadly conflict situations, there needs to be a time of reconciliation for long lasting peace to occur. October 17 is Annual International Conflict Resolution Day. Let us all remind ourselves that in spite of our differences and conflicts we have with others, reconciliation is always possible when we take the first step toward ending conflict. Regardless whether you are having conflict with someone or they are having conflict with you, take that first step toward reconciliation and peace. Help our families, communities and world be a better place.
