Ulnar Nerve Impingement and Ulnar Nerve Glide I’ve had a few clients in the last couple weeks that have complained of numbness and tingling going into their pinky and ring fingers. The ulnar nerve is the nerve that supplies the little finger and half of the ring finger. But no one ever complains of numbness and tingling into half of the ring finger. They complain of it in the whole finger. The ulnar nerve starts at the neck and passes through the cubital tunnel located at t...he elbow and then passes through the tunnel of guyon located at the wrist. The ulnar nerve can become impinged at any of those locations which can cause the numbness and tingling into your pinky and ring fingers. There are a few others things that can also cause the numbness and tingling into those fingers, for example neck problems, tight pec minor, cervical rib, and clavicle dysfunctions. Some other causes could also be a traumatic wrist injury and leaning your elbow on a hard surface. How I can help! Through assessing your dysfunction I can determine where the nerve is possibly impinged which is causing your symptoms. By treating the cause of the problem and doing your home care your symptoms should be alleviated. One of my favourite exercises to give it the Ulnar Nerve Glide. The key to getting good results is to do it slow and steady and NOT to exercise to the point of pain. Do this cycle 5 times in the morning and 5 times at night. ****over doing this exercise can irritate the nerve. **** Do this exercise on the affected side. The point of the ulnar nerve glide is to untangle the nerve where it is dysfunctional. One cycle consists of starting with your arm stretched out and having your fingers pointing down. Then bring your palm towards the side of your ear by bending your elbow and at the same time bring your ear to the opposite shoulder. Then bring your head back to neutral and straighten your arm and point your fingers downward.
