Energy from renewable sources is more expensive for Ontarians. http://business.financialpost.com//how-green-energy-is-fl/ Is this permanent? Or is it just the private companies paying down the costs associated with the new energy infrastructure?... Costs are always passed on to consumers - even the government does it.
When an economy becomes too dependent on one source of revenue, it can't be good. http://globalnews.ca//lower-oil-gas-prices-could-hurt-sask/ What do you think? Will lower oil prices help or hurt the economy?

If we had an alternate energy source, this would be a non-issue, right? http://www.telegraph.co.uk//Russia-lays-claim-to-billions-
Now that's interesting! http://www.vancouversun.com//Incentive/10339925/story.html Any comments?
TGIF and Halloween as well! What are your plans for happy, healthy and low carbon footprint celebration?
This is a great video on how to use behavioural science to reduce energy use in the home. http://www.ted.com//alex_laskey_how_behavioral_science_can Could this be applied to waste reduction?
I remember as a boy, when on summer vacation at the lake, my parents would often take us out to the local garbage dump in the evening for some entertainment. What kind of entertainment? To watch the bears as they scavenged for food scraps before most of the garbage would be pushed into the incinerator.... Here's an article about bears closer to a metropolitan city. http://calgary.ctvnews.ca/bear-captured-at-northwest-city-l This type of situation has the potential to go bad quickly for everyone, not just the bear. This is just one of the dangers of landfills that many do not discuss. Gulls are another major problem associated with landfills.
That's a shame... http://www.theguardian.com//flytipping-up-20-percent-engla PBL would gladly take most of that rubbish and through our vacuum pyrolysis process, turn the organics into useable energy products.
Circular economy...good idea or not? http://forumblog.org//10/circular-economy-china-ida-auken/
This is why garbage is becoming a resource. http://nextcity.org//landfill-gas-electricity-grid-future- One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Here's a link to Environment Canada regarding MSW. https://www.ec.gc.ca/gdd-mw/default.asp?lang=En&n=EF0FC6A9-1 Check it out and see what the government of Canada has to say about MSW.

The real story of landfills and what they represent http://www.dailysabah.com//from-solution-to-pollution-land Want to live next to one? Would you want to make someone else live next to one?... What can be done?
Good Morning Monday! Hope you have a fantastic week! Last week of October - Halloween just around the corner and soon after that Christmas and New Year's. Time is flying so don't waste it.
Now that is interesting. http://www.asianage.com//waste-management-firms-playing-di And you thought that waste management companies being "corrupt" only was a thing you saw on TV.... There is a certain reality to the story. This is not just an environmental issue but a social and economic issue as well. All of these need to be addressed in a proper waste management strategy. What do you think? Could stuff like this happen in Canada or the US?
Wow! Metro Vancouver has a problem with MSW. http://www.vancouversun.com//Metro+pre/10271255/story.html Waste disposal companies hauling Vancouver metro waste out of the region to reduce their tipping fees. This means for those waste disposal companies the main issue is economics.... There is a better solution than just implementing a new bylaw.
TGIF everyone! Hope you had a great week and have an even better weekend planned.
Nunavut in Northern Canada is concerned with waste management. http://www.nunatsiaqonline.ca//65674nunavut_needs_serious/ It's pretty clear that around the world, communities large and small are beginning to focus more on the impact of landfills that are not properly managed is having on their communities... not just from an environmental view but from social and economic impacts of dumps running wild.... What about your community?
Cities in India are begining to face the reality that they have too much waste not being properly handled. http://www.thehindu.com//corporation-mo/article6529884.ece What do you think?
How is everyone holding up? Yesterday was quite a shocking day for Canada - almost like the loss of innocence. The attack and resulting death of the soldier standing guard at the war memorial in Ottawa followed by the attempted attack in the Parliament building has left the Canadian public realing in shock that this could happen in Canada.... What are your thoughts?
Responsible waste disposal is constantly in the news. https://bangordailynews.com//rockland-to-hear-presentatio/ Communities large and small are beginning to realize that they need a better plan.... What does your community do?
Which image do you like better?
Do you think Canada is doing a good job environmentally? http://www.theglobeandmail.com//canada-l/article20959840/ Some tough criticism in there.
Interesting article from the weekend. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca//small-business-sustainable-s Focuses a bit more on what SME businesses can do help the environment rather than only what individuals and large companies can do.
Hope you all had a great weekend. Weather is quite nice in Saskatchewan considering it is nearing the end of October when there has usually been at least some form of snow that sticks around more than a few minutes.
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Any comments on this?
