#studentstorysaturday Meet Devin Patton, Explore student! . ?... Being in the Explore program has changed my life and has changed the way I look at leadership. When looking at strong leaders of the world such as Warren Buffet or other CEOs of companies, I thought they knew everything and they would be an expert in everything they do. I thought leadership was just bossing people and knowing all about that industry. However, the biggest thing I learned about leadership in Explore is how leaders should never stop learning. This has shown me no matter what position whether I am a student or I am a leader I can still use the resources around me to learn. This also makes me think of my relationship with God and how we should never stop learning about him. . ’ ? There are so many skills that I have learned in Explore, for example conflict management. Before coming to Prairie I did not like conflict and would try to avoid it at all costs. But during my time in Explore they showed me the importance of dealing with conflict in a healthy way. I learned if you don't deal with conflict then you will not be able to be a performing team. I also learned that if you don't deal with conflict well, then the team will be stuck in a place where it feels like members are continually beginning to know each other. This will be applicable in any job that I will work for after school. If I am leading a group of people and want them to perform then I need to be ok with conflict. When dealing with conflict, I have learned that communication is key and even if you think you have communicated enough you should communicate even more. . ? One aspect of God I have seen most clearly since being at Prairie is how God is our perfect father. Before coming to Prairie, I would look at God like my earthly father and it was not a great view. While taking classes the professors put a lot focus on God being perfect and how he cares so much about us. This has changed the way I looked at God and I was able to appreciate the love he has for his people. Another way God has been working in my life at Prairie is realizing my identity is in God and not in the world. This reminds me of Romans 8:15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father. This verse has been instrumental in my understanding of God. To learn more about the Explore program click here: https://prairie.edu/outdoor-leadership/

CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Denis Nassar-Baptista! Denis was one of the 9 composers honoured in a national Composition Competition by the Orchestre Metropolitain (Montreal). The composition competition is in honour of the legacy of Beethoven. As Denis describes in his own words, the basis of his approach to the composition he submitted:... "I'm very thankful to God for being among the top 9 composers in a major national competition. It was also something special to get there with an orchestral piece based on bird calls that I transcribed from birds here in Three Hills."

!!WIN A COPY!! Details below . In Saving One Another: Philodemus and Paul on Moral Formation in Community Justin Reid Allison compares how the Epicurean philosopher Philodemus and the Christian apostle Paul envisioned the members of their communities helping one another to grow into moral maturity. Allison establishes that Philodemus and Paul are more similar than previously noticed in their conception and practice of moral formation in community, and that these similaritie...s offer a critical opportunity to consider important differences between the two as well. By deepening the comparison to include differences alongside similarities, and to include theological and socio-economic facets of communal moral formation, Allison shows that Philodemus and Paul uniquely shed fresh light on one another’s texts when understood in comparative perspective. . HOW MANY WORDS ARE IN THIS BOOK? Guess for a chance to WIN! Winner will be announced Nov. 2 See more

#studentstorysaturday "The Explore Program at Prairie has been transformational for me, to say the least. I used to think leaders have all the answers and make few to zero mistakes, but after being in Explore, I have realized that all leaders, at some time or another, have experienced failure of some sort. However, failure is not final, and if you have a willingness and the humility to learn from your mistakes, you will grow in your ability to lead others well. A person lea...ds out of who he or she is and Explore has done an exceptional job at creating an environment that is conducive to helping each student grow in godly character, confidence, and leadership skills. To lead well, is to submit oneself under the authority of Jesus Christ, have a willingness to learn and serve, and fully depend on Jesus in the task of leading others. Some of the skills/lessons I’ve learned at Prairie that I believe will be beneficial for the rest of my life are conflict management, understanding my performance is not equivalent to my worth or value, and that failure is not final. Another key thing the Explore Program has taught me is that God meets us in discomfort, whether it be a twenty- one day backpacking trip in the desert, building a shelter for winter survival, resolving relational conflict, or dealing with challenges in the work place. Faith grows most when it is put under pressure. There are many benefits to persevering, and how we approach discomfort can determine how much we grow through it. Putting my trust fully in God and depending on Him, is an area of life God has been teaching me in. God has used Explore to prepare me in embracing challenges such as the global pandemic and other life challenges. Psalm 23:1 says, The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. When we let God shepherd and lead us, we lack absolutely nothing. When our identity is placed in Christ, we can have a sense of peace, even when the world around us is chaotic." - Molly Murdock, Explore Student Learn more about the Explore program at https://prairie.edu/outdoor-leadership/

We realize it takes a village to raise a child, likewise it takes a whole community to start and grow a school. The legacy of the Lord in their lives is still felt in Prairie's foundational values today. Thank you to the Kirk clan, extended family and all of you for your network and Christian heritage that connects you to Prairie.

Prairie College 19.08.2020

As we approach Prairie's centennial in 2022, we are excited to be celebrating the Kirk clan, who were instrumental in the founding of the school. We recognize that the Kirk name has been lost in our language, and we want to get it back. We are planning to rename our main auditorium (the old high school auditorium) to Kirk Chapel and are holding a celebration on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at 10:00 AM MDT (that’s tomorrow). Our plan, in that chapel, is to tell some of the Kirk story and to express our appreciation to the family for all they have done. Thanksgiving this year may not come easy for us. I think it’s safe to say that when 2020 is over, the world will breathe a collective sigh of relief. But as hard as it has been, I’m beginning to think this was exactly what we needed. But God has gifts to give us that can only come wrapped in suffering. Chief among them this year is the gift of sight. - Carmen Joy Imes, 2020: The Gift Nobody Wanted... Carmen is the Program Coordinator of Bible & Theology at Prairie College.
