For your interest- a live video- whole horse dissection!
This old girl is the best. This video has me missing summer! And yes, my nephew think she's a dog
Great post! With this extra cold weather, make sure your horse has access to extra feed AND water.
What a wild storm last night! I hope everyone is safe and warm. I went out to check all of the creatures this morning- the horses were busy munching a bale to keep warm, while the cows were huddled up in the shelter. Its funny that their instincts are so different!
#nationalhorseday Hope you spent your day celebrating!!
I DID NOT KNOW... I did not know a horse could bring people into your life that end up meaning the most to you. I did not know a horse could make the hardest days of your life bearable.... I did not know a horse could teach you to put others first. I did not know a horse could remind you time and time again that your gut is always right. I did not know a horse could break your heart. I did not know a horse could pick you up when you have fallen apart. I did not know a horse could teach you to dream again, after you thought it was not possible. I did not know a horse could make you believe in yourself. I did not know a horse could teach responsibility, work ethic, and dedication. I did not know a horse could make you believe in something when no one else does. I did not know a horse could make you learn to forgive and forget. I did not know a horse could humble you faster than you can say humble. I did not know a horse could make you a winner. I did not know a horse could also teach you how to lose gracefully. I did not know a horse could instill patience in you. I did not know a horse could make you listen better. I did not know a horse could give you their heart. I did not know a horse could change your life. I did not know a horse could do all these things... but now I know. Written by Alissa Kelly

A friendly reminder for anyone with a hydrant near their walkway! I hope you are all staying warm and safe!
Brag time: let's see pics of your horses (or fave creature) and tell me why they are awesome. I think we could all use a break from election and covid news!
Hoping your week is great!
The toughest thing to think about, but its always easier if you have a plan before hand. A good read on euthanasia.
Potomac fever in Alberta, could make its way to Saskatchewan:
I have the two smaller kits pictured below. $25 each! Scoop them up before they get packed away!
You may have watched your vet pull a blood sample from your horse, but have they spun it in a centrifuge to separate it into its different parts? I thought this was pretty neat For a couple of years, I have suspected that my old mare has Cushings Disease, aka Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID). Knowing that a diagnosis can be tricky and expensive, and with no determined cure, I have tried managing her diet the best I can and kept an eye on things. After a few str...essful days and an onset of new symptoms, it was time to figure out what is going on with her. Step one - pulling blood from the worst patient ever! Step two - separate out the plasma; send it to the lab for analysis. I will keep ya'll posted where we go from here! Turns out, there's a grant right now and my lab work might be free! Read more about the disease here, and the grant application, if interested: https://www.bicanadaequine.ca/ppid
A great ending for this little guy. Thankful for all of the first responders in our communities!
MOVING SALE Prairie Equine is finally getting back to the #farmlife. So, to lessen the amount of first aid supplies I have to move, I am doing a sale! These aren't our usual kits but they definitely have enough to get you by (** read: save your horse's life**) in an emergency! Duffle Bag: $50- SOLD! Trail Bag: $25... Mini Tool Kit: $25 Don't miss out- get these at MY cost! Can deliver to Estevan, Weyburn & Regina. While supplies last.
From Buck's daughter. Saying a prayer for this family and that these souls are at rest.
I had the same thing happen to me when I was about 10 years old- it looked like a really huge bolt stuck way in ... ended up being a short, fat bolt that barely poked in enough to hit the sole! Heart attack for sure!!!
Wow, what a ride. I hope you are all staying safe this summer!
This is a great article on infectious diseases which are life threatening to horses: https://pin.it/5dXBUeo. It includes prevention and symptoms!
