To my fellow Elm Creekers, I will be home at my parents this weekend and can do tax return pick-ups Saturday and Sunday. Open to basic returns, self employed individuals and farms. I’ll also be back in the area next week Thursday and Friday. (Kids are going to Grandma and Grandpa’s for an early spring break.) Message/Email me if you are interested.

In light of the Covid-19 challenges, Canada Revenue Agency has deferred the tax filling deadline to June 1, 2020 with required tax payments deferred to after August 31. I was and will continue to provide tax return pick up services to reduce the need for office visits and have extended my $50 discount into all of April. CRA notes that to have your child tax benefits calculated correctly for the new 2020-2021 year you may still want to file by the April deadline. Be safe!

Today I am wearing the hat of my IT Department. Updating my corporate tax program, getting set up with a new cloud based financial statement program, and other IT matters. I don’t think I pay my IT department enough!

You know that commercial... Have a Happy Period... well, sugar coating just doesn’t cut it for me. Getting your taxes done, even by me, may not be relaxing as let’s just admit having to pay any amount of extra taxes at tax time just isn’t fun and paying to have those taxes done I’m sure doesn’t add to the enjoyment. Some light reading. I am currently in my 3rd course for becoming a Level 1 Certified Financial Planner. The Risk Management part of this course is all insurance. You may have a particular image in mind for an insurance salesperson but what I learned was that having the right insurance coverage for your family is part of a well rounded financial plan. After leaving my group insurance plan I had to find a replacement to make sure my family would be taken care of should the unspeakable happen to me. I highly recommend Kimberley Jensen, with Sunlife in Carman if you are thinking of revisiting your insurance needs. She was great to deal with and understood I had a budget to work with.
