Today is also Orange Shirt Day! Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’s account of losing her shiny new orange shirt on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. The date was chosen because children are back in school and teachers have time to plan, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the year. Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and community agencies to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.

Rowan's Law Day: the last Wednesday of September In March of 2018, the Ontario government passed a law known as Rowan’s Law. Designed to protect amateur athletes, including students, and educate parents/guardians, coaches, teachers, and officials about the dangers of head injuries, it is the first law of its kind in Canada and benefits both athletes and non-athletes.... Rowan’s Law is also about education. By increasing concussion awareness and knowledge, we can change Ontario’s culture around sports, physical activity, and injury. Rowan’s Law will make it easier for those who experience concussions to SPEAK UP, get the help they need, and take the time necessary for recovery, with the support of everyone around them. #RowansLawDay #HitStopSit This information was gathered from PHEA: Healthy Schools Healthy Communities Yorkton Minor Football Yorkton Minor Hockey Yorkton Minor Baseball Springers Gymnastics Club SJHL Yorkton SECON Maulers Hockey Club Melville Millionaires Jr A Yorkton Hyundai Terriers Junior Hockey

Winter is just around the corner. Which means that it will soon become slippery and icey. Some of us choose to slip and slide as part of our chossen sport or activity: skating, hockey, curling. Sometimes mother nature decides she is going to make our driveway and side walks slippery. Is you balance adequate enough to manage?

Did you know physiotherapy has been around for 100 years? Physiotherapy started after soldiers returned back from WWI where they treated amputations, spinal cord injuries, fractures and maimed faces and hands. Most were massage therapists who received additional training in medical gymnastics. Most in the healthcare field believed that the profession would dissolve after once the war ended but instead flourished. ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a full article all about the history of physiotherapy in the journal: Physiotherapy Practise (July/August edition). The picture posted was taken from the article entitled: Reflections on the "New" Profession- Physiotherapy.
