Check out this excellent treatment protocol for posterior knee pain by Dr. Leo Chou! This patient showed up yesterday just before the last appointment, this Automotive Technician presented with acute right sided, posterior knee pain. He was unable to straighten his right knee the day before. . Share this post with a friend and see if this is what they need! @precisionperformancecalgary... Dr. Chou’s Findings: He reported he had moderate pain in right knee. There was no visible swelling and bruising. No Tenderness along the Tibial Plateau, stabilizing ligaments around the knee. Tenderness with deep palpation inferior to popliteal fossa (along right popliteus muscle, and familiar pain with insertion site) His range of motion and strength was mildly limited due to discomfort. He could weight-bear and ambulate but it was painful. Orthopedic tests for all knee ligaments and meniscus were unremarkable. Right sided hamstring weaker than left on muscle testing Dr. Chou diagnosed him with a Grade 2 Right Popliteus Strain The initial treatment Dr. Chou decided to go with for this patient was neurofunctional acupuncture, targeting: the tibial nerves and segmental inputs from L5 for pain modulation. There are other points here to facilitate pain modulation for prior complaints. Dr. Chou also performed specialized soft tissue therapy to encourage blood circulation. How does this benefit patient: When the needle is inserted, this creates an increase in blood flow, dilates the blood vessels and promotes nourishment to the nerves in the area that are irritated (it’s all about influencing the NERVOUS SYSTEM!) This helps decrease pain, restore proper muscle function, and increase range of motion. Dr. Chou targeted the proper areas as you’ll see small pulsatile motion in his right leg and rhomboid muscle. (It’s not as noticeable, since it’s our first treatment, and it’s all about progression.) (Swipe!) HOME CARE for this patient: Gentle range of motion exercises to encourage early mobilization. PRECISION & SELF CARE protocol: Educate on occupation posture, compress, load the muscle optimally with proper exercises, and, vascularization
