Preferably Fresh

Freshly squeezed stemmed Spanish Clementines I was grocery shopping yesterday and spotted these. Right away, I knew they’d make a tasty drink! That is by ...far the best fresh orange juice I’ve ever tried! Perfect balance of tartness and sweetness, full of flavour and super juicy! The following cocktails I tried it out on are all my own recipes. I used my No. 1 mixing rule "make sure there’s balance" to create them. I’d say I did a pretty good job however, I have some self criticism for them: METAL MAIDEN: This one goes out to my girl "MetalMaiden"! This recipe contains Vodka, Blue Curaçao, Fresh Mandarin and Lemon juices and a little simple syrup. I was really pushing for that pure Blue colour yet, I got closer to an Aqua-blue. Very orange-forward thanks to the Curaçao and mandarin. As delicious as it was, it needs more vodka. Maybe subtract a quarter oz. of simple syrup and replace it with that? *The next 2 drinks don’t have names as I couldn’t think of any-recommendations are appreciated * The red one is made with Gin, muddled raspberries, mandarin and lemon juices, simple syrup and a splash of sparkling wine. Very nice! Once again the orange is the flavour winner, however I couldn’t taste the raspberry very well. Next time, more raspberries? The last one involves a little tastebud-trip to Mexico! Tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh clementine, grapefruit and lime juices, simple syrup and muddled Jalapeño. Not a bad flavour but, the spicy jalapeño and Tequila come through the most. I have a hard time tasting the citrus. More Exotic Fruits! Me and Dad took a trip to Toronto yesterday, where we visited 2 international grocery stores, enabling me to buy these beautiful fruits! We’ve got Golden Passion Fruit, Sugar Apple, Rambutan and Mangosteen! I haven’t made a drink with them yet, except for a drink with the Golden passion fruit (which was a martini) but I certainly am going to! I also bought some fresh Jackfruit but, am not going to include it in this post as I disliked it (too dry plus, I... didn’t care for the funky flavour). The Sugar Apple is not ripe yet, the Rambutan doesn’t actually have much flavour, the Mangosteen is extremely delicious!, and the Golden Passion fruit tastes like the purple Passion fruit-you just get more fruit here due to how much bigger it is!
