Calling all prospective Optometry students in POCUT, here's an excellent opportunity for a mentorship program! If you have questions about Optometry school, or the profession as a whole, sign up to be a mentee as part of the CAOS Pre-Optometry Mentorship program. Each mentee is paired up with a mentor, who is a current Canadian Optometry student, and mentees are free to ask any questions or concerns they may have. Hello POCUT! We hope everyone has been taking care during quarantine, and we're excited to announce that club membership for the 2020-21 school year will be resuming remotely, stay tuned for the application form in late August/early September! We also wanted to share a new mentorship initiative with you called Womentors in Healthcare, a community targeted for young females pursuing careers in healthcare, including an optometrist in their leadership team! Read on for more deta...ils and the sign up link below! ~~~~~~ Who are we? We are a group of recent graduates or mature students in various fields of healthcare at Canadian universities. We are passionate about mentorship and have created this group with the intent to inspire and guide young females pursuing careers in healthcare. We have found mentorship to be so helpful in getting us to where we are today and would just like to make the process easier for our fellow females! So far, our leadership team consists of: a dentist, a senior medical student, a pharmacist, a senior dietetics student, a chiropractor, a speech-language pathologist, a naturopathic doctor, a nurse, and an optometrist. These leaders are the go-to people for information about their field and can connect our members with others in the field! We are continuously growing our team and community, so we expect to have a vast array of leaders in the near future. What do we do? We plan on hosting various events targeted for university students or high school students to answer questions about different careers in healthcare, round table interdisciplinary discussions and open discussions where students can feel comfortable talking about their stories. We also will be starting a one-on-one woman to woman mentorship program where students can be matched to someone in their field of interest. They will be able to communicate directly with this person and receive personal guidance to help them reach their goals. How do you sign up? The role involves performing diagnostic tests and administrative duties. Commitments are approximately 8-12 hours a week and training will be provided.
