Curling action continues in the Calgary bubble.

It does not seem long ago that Murray Rule was cooking roast beef or pulled pork for us at the club. Hardly an event went by when Murray did not bring in a couple of dozen muffins for us to enjoy, but those days are gone. After a summer of health issues and a couple of weeks of up and down health, Murray Rule passed away this morning in Brockville hospital. When the obituary is completed I will post it here. and on the Message board site.

Fund-raising Update Our fund-raising goal is $20,000 to assist with the fixed costs of our facility while closed due to Covid-19. The response has been encouraging so far. Donations have been received from 28% of our membership to a total of $10,400 or 52% of our goal. Those members that have not donated and are still planning to, should do so by the end of December if they wish to receive a charitable donation receipt. This program ends on December 31. Donations ...can also be sent directly to the Club, but no tax receipt can be offered. Thanks to all who have participated so far. To the rest of the membership, thanks for your consideration. At the recent OVCA Annual General Meeting (held virtually this year), our own Neil Dufour was a recipient of the Kenneth B. Thain Award for Meritorious Service. This is awarded annually by the OVCA to individuals who have contributed much to curling in an organizational and administrative way. A summary of the supporting information to Neil’s nomination: -Neil has been a member of Prescott Curling Club for 55 years -he has served on the Board, numerous times in various capa...cities including President 1991-1992, 1992-1993 and 2010-2013. -Neil has served on the OVCA Board and was OVCA President in 2000 -Neil has served as President of the Branch and has been a member of the Governor General's Curling Club of Canada since 1993. Neil was President of that organization when Prescott won the Governor General’s trophy in 2000 and was able to present the cup to teams from his home club. -Neil also coached the winning Stanley Gauthier Prescott Ladies team in 2000. -was recognized as Volunteer of the Year at Prescott Curling Club in 2004 -he travelled to Scotland as a member of the Canadian Team for the Strathcona Cup tour in 2009 and helped to organize The Scots’ tour locally when they subsequently toured Canada. Neil has organized the Annual Bern Kirkby Memorial Swing and Sweep kick off to the Curling Season in Prescott for 20 years. Neil has introduced numerous people to the sport of Curling and has been a lifelong ambassador of this great sport. Congratulations Neil on receiving this well deserved award!
