This International Men's Day we remember that in Canada, the leading cause of death for men under 50 is suicide. Not cancer. Not a heart attack. Not a car accident. Suicide. That is an unsettling fact; knowing that the most likely thing to bring about my untimely death before I'm 50 is myself. With my own history of depression and my tendency to isolate myself from others, I have learned how important it is to be honest with those closest to me about how I am actually doing. We need to take care of our mental health as much as our physical because they are inexorably connected. Help fight the stigma, help your loved ones. Let's talk about mental health. #MensMentalHealth #InternationalMensDay #MentalHealth #SuicidePrevention
There's no better way to explore a new place than finding a local who is willing to share their knowledge of the area with you. When you live in an area for long enough, you develop an intuitive knowledge of your environment that no amount of guidebooks, planning or staring at maps can replicate. You become familiar with the seasonal cycle and know where to go at what time of year, flowing with the natural rhythm of the Earth. Thanks to Jill and Ziggy (the cheesy-grinned Malamute in 2nd photo), for sharing their local watering hole with us during our visit to the Kootenays earlier this fall.

Favourable winds and a quick response from the BC Wildfire Service had this forest fire on Green Mountain Road knocked down in a matter of hours. Watching these heli pilots navigate the narrow mountain valley all while filling up in a tiny roadside pond was incredible to see. A big thank you to everyone involved in keeping our remote mountain community safe! Apex Fire Brigade | Penticton Professional Fire Fighters | Castanet | PentictonNow | Penticton Western News

The Milky Way, Jupiter and Saturn rising over White Lake Grasslands Protected Area.
A spectacular evening at the observatory watching comet Neowise and the northern lights illuminate the night sky. Our senses were overwhelmed as @Drew Desharnais Photography and I stood in childish wonder staring at the shimmering night sky while coyotes and owls filled the darkness with a dreamy soundscape.
Last night was a celestial smorgasbord! Comet Neowise and the aurora borealis joined forces in the northern skies while shooting stars and a crystal clear Milky Way lit up the south. @drewdphotos and I couldn’t contain our excitement and were likely heard yipping and yapping with the coyotes all night. Timelapse videos coming soon.
Timelapse video of comet Neowise gracing the skies above the Okanagan Valley shortly before sunrise. The comet is now visible all night long for those of us located in Canada. Get out there and enjoy the night sky! Destination British Columbia | CBC Vancouver | Penticton Western News | PentictonNow | Castanet
Dreamy sunset light dirt biking in the mountains. I've never really fancied motorized exploration, often preferring self propelled adventures instead, but after a few friends convinced me to get a dirtbike, I'm hooked! Being able to access locations that would normally take hours, if not days, to get to is a blessing when conditions line up for a spectacular sunset such as this one and you're still in your robe working on the computer.
Comet NEOWISE is a cosmic snowball of frozen gases, rock and dust ~100 million miles away from Earth and is now visible to the naked eye by looking in the north eastern part of the pre dawn sky. Castanet | PentictonNow | CHBC - Global Okanagan
