With 40 to 50 percent in weight savings, automotive wheel manufacturers are contracting composites manufacturers to produce composite wheels in a large-scale production effort. In reducing the weight of wheels, carbon rims make a significant impact on decreasing overall energy/fuel consumption.
Manufacturers will soon be receiving alternative solutions in producing vehicle interiors. Composites companies are looking to provide options for manufacturers to create Class A level vehicle interiors using plastic-specific paint applications and recycled bioplastics.
With only 543 made, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was a designer's dream. It featured a 18" fiberglass nose and reverse scoops on the front fenders, which aided in reducing drag. Unfortunately for Dodge, it's Charger Daytona was outshined by the 1970 Plymouth Thunderbird.
The 1972 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG utilized a composite body to become one of the most sought after international cars. Available only in Japan, it was allowed to race in the US when modified with an extended fiberglass ‘aero-dyna’ nose.
Fiberglass was a major breakthrough in the composites field 50 years ago. Though ground breaking, modern technologies have allowed us to create RevoTherm, the newest and most innovative next step in composites manufacturing. Increased strength and durability, while decreasing weight, allows us to create a product that revolutionizes the field.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
