The average life of a steel scaler or curette is six to 12 months vs. the average life of an instrument made of emerging metal technology, which should last an average of 15 to 18 months. There are many variables that may affect the lifespan of instruments.... How are you supposed to: - prevent disease - maintain appointment times - process instruments ... - and STILL manage to squeeze in a lunch? Make sure your scalers are SHARP! Dull scalers steal precious minutes from you by reducing efficiency. And let's face it, you can use all the "extra" minutes you can get.

Tip Tuesday: End your sharpening with a downward stroke. This motion allows for the little metal fragments to be removed from the face of the blade.
