Red Dress Day on May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. You may have noticed an empty red dress hanging in an odd place like a random tree on the side of the highway. Each red dress symbolizes an Indigenous woman or girl who has been murdered or is missing, representing just a portion of thousands of people. Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada (MMIWG) refers to a human rights crisis that has only ...recently become a topic of discussion within national media. Raising awareness by sharing information, displaying a red dress, wearing red and contributing to local indigenous organizations can help bring to light one of Canada’s most shameful histories. Please read this excerpt and the full version of The Final Report from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls website: The Final Report is comprised of the truths of more than 2,380 family members, survivors of violence, experts and Knowledge Keepers shared over two years of cross-country public hearings and evidence gathering. It delivers 231 individual Calls for Justice directed at governments, institutions, social service providers, industries and all Canadians. As documented in the Final Report, testimony from family members and survivors of violence spoke about a surrounding context marked by multigenerational and intergenerational trauma and marginalization in the form of poverty, insecure housing or homelessness and barriers to education, employment, health care and cultural support. Experts and Knowledge Keepers spoke to specific colonial and patriarchal policies that displaced women from their traditional roles in communities and governance and diminished their status in society, leaving them vulnerable to violence. Hey! It’s been a while. During these times of isolation, we often ask each other what we have been doing to keep busy but I think it’s really important to note that we’re already feeling enough pressure as it is from things we cannot control so keeping busy isn’t as important as keeping healthy. I would rather know this - what have you been doing to take care of yourself during this time? Personally, I have been literally and figuratively doing some Spring cleaning ...which has been really helping me stay sane through this stay-at-home stuff. I highly recommend decluttering your closets and your minds of any potential donations and negative thoughts! I have been making a point to create better habits in general for both my physical and mental health and to really maintain self-care. I have been cooking a lot more and making a point to spoil myself with fancy treats. Whether it be taking a walk, or bundling up with a fuzzy blanket to watch Netflix; it’s important for us to be kind to ourselves. The days are certainly long and sometimes feel uncertain which is even more reason to show ourselves a little more love than usual. I sincerely hope you all are doing so for yourselves because you deserve it. I just wanted to let you all know how much I miss you and I cannot wait to get back to making you feel just a little more sparkly. Until then, check in on your family and friends to see how they’re doing and be sure to take good care of yourselves until we meet again! #selfcare #selflove #sparkle #missingmyclients #supportlocalsmallbusiness #savesmallbusiness See more

I can’t even believe that I’m forced to say this - again. Only 6 days ago the Provincial government announced that personal care service businesses would be permitted to open as of April 12th and have just announced that they’re taking it all back. I cannot even coherently express how disappointed I am. I am so sorry for how this must disappoint my clients. I haven’t even finished rescheduling everyone yet and now I have to say that I'm going to have to cancel any appoin...tments within the newly implemented month-long lockdown. All those booked within this period of time will have the first opportunity to reschedule when we finally can. I’m sorry. I BEG OF YOU... Please understand that this is totally beyond my control. Anyone that knows me KNOWS I do everything in my business by the book and beyond and I check and triple-check EVERYTHING before making any moves. I never would have got everyone’s hopes up in this way had I not received official confirmation from City By-Law and Public Health just 2 days ago that I could open on the 12th had I known they would backtrack the decision 6 days later. **The Provincial Government notifies the press of changes first, then the City and our local Public Health receive official updates. Our Public Health and City 311 telephone dispatchers and even our Public Health Inspectors are not to blame here and do not have any control over these decisions or how they’re delivered. I will always respect and comply with Public Health Ontario. Please note: I remain available for curb-side pick-up of any gift certificates. I can accept debit/credit/cash/etransfer right at your vehicle. I will remain closed for all services until permitted to do so by the government. This is hitting me pretty hard right now but it’s not going to make me lose focus or hope. I will be back. The kindness and support I continue to feel from so many people is more appreciated than I think any of you even realize. I remain grateful. Again, I am so, so sorry and thank you for your continued support. #supportlocalsmallbusiness

FINALLY got confirmation that I can in fact open as of April 12th! I will be in contact with everyone on the priority list for rescheduling today and tomorrow. Don’t hesitate to send a message/text/call for a new booking but please be patient as I get everyone rescheduled first. I am SO happy to be getting back to what I love! ... Here’s what you should know: Open now for booking appointments as of April 12th. Eyelash & Eyebrow services are available for booking. Facial services will not be available for now while certain services remain prohibited under this zone. As has always been the case; I am serving clients By-Appointment-Only and will only allow 1 person in the shop at a time to allow for thorough sterilization and maximum social distancing between each client. (This is no longer just a personal process to deliver the highest quality, safest, VIP experience but also an official restriction as per Public Health.) Masks required. Pre-Entry Health Screening Questions and contact information collected in log book prior each appointment. #supportlocalsmallbusiness #PrettyThingsBeautyCompany #selfcare #selflove #sparkle #eyelashes #eyebrows #skincare #somethingforeveryone #naturalordramatic #oneononeservice #byappointmentonly #availabledaysandnights #availableweekends #calltextordmtobook #chillatmosphere #relaxing #pampering #treatyourself

Although it certainly appears that Personal Care Services will be permitted to operate even under the grey zone as of April 12th; I still have not received confirmation from Public Health regarding the details of what specifically will and will not be restricted. I was advised to keep calling back on Monday as the directives from the government continued to come in this afternoon. The second I get official confirmation of what I can and cannot offer under the new changes - I will be making an announcement on both socials and texting everyone on the priority wait list to reschedule. Your continued patience and support is greatly appreciated.
