Hello everyone. It's been a very different Remembrance Day here. Everything online, although I did hear a bagpiper downtown when I was shipping an order. Today I'm sharing my Flander's Fields mixed media fibre arts wall quilt. I printed John McRae's poem on organza and fused it to the background. The poppy is my own design from my quilt pattern days. The crosses were traced from a photograph of the actual gravestones in the Flanders Fields cemetery. I painted one of them purp...le because it sits in the shade of a huge tree. And I attached the 3 poppies from my collection of Canadian Legion poppies over the years. This piece was made to honour my father-in-law Robert Wilson Bredin who served in the Navy - corvettes, a mine sweeper and an aircraft carrier on convoy duty. My husband Sid is named after one of his dad's best buds who died when his ship was torpedoed.
